Question for current W&C permit holders:
Do you find yourself with carry & non-carry clothes or have you basically shifted your wardrobe to all clothes that are suitable for carry (with some exceptions of course).
Option I guess would be to pocket carry a less desirable firearm when the clothing dictates.

No, I haven't. I also don't have to go too many places with my shirt tucked in so that helps.

Exactly. One doesn't have to. There are different ways to carry for different ways of dress and situations.

It is important to train in all of those situations though.

Vertx brand (on Amazon also) has some polo shirts that are a bit pricey but are designed for covert IWB carry with a second layer to protect the skin. I have one that I love and is very comfortable but I won't be buying one for every day of the week.

I do like Carhart they make great fat guy stuff.

I like my Carhartt shirts, the only issue I have is there is no in-between nature of their lengths, if I get a 2xl its a little short, but if I rock a 2xlt it looks like I am wearing a dress as a top even with being 6'3. I feel like if I was a few inches taller it would look more normal but at least it'll cover a a firearm well.

Also, no XXX My muffin top isn't the problem, but my broad shoulders are. I like these shirts. Guys at work used them.

Sometimes the gun and holster are more important. I frequently carry a Shield in nothing more than board shorts and a t-shirt. A good holster with a strong belt clip can solve a lot of problems as well.

Now that someone seems to be on my side. . . I have a few UntuckIt shirts and the material thickness does help to conceal a firearm well. I tend to like the "long" versions for a couple more inches below the belt line. Great for carrying at the office.

I use them because I have them. I don't consider these shirts a practical option because of the price. There are plenty of cheaper options out there that perform better.

I was so happy to discover 5.11 pants; finally I had pockets for everything I wanted to carry. Now I discover that they make me a marked man because tacticool. I don't know if I can give them up to be a grey man; hell, whatever isn't already grey on me is pink.

I had about 5 pair of older 511 tactical/cargo pants I wore for training and they worked great. I wore the knees out in a couple years and bought a few new pair. They had changed the damn belt loop locations on the new ones and they were about as wrong as they could be for 3-4 o'clock carry.

I knew I should have bought 100 of them. Back in the day, Woolrich used to make a conceal carry shirt that was slightly flared from about the center down. Not very noticeable as a big shirt, but just enough to swallow the printing of an OWB pistol.

) and Carhartt shirts (longer and thicker material, in both long sleeve and short sleeve). For dressier shirts, I go for patterned, one size larger than normal to avoid printing. And it's all stuff I can wear when I don't carry .

This thread has hit both extremes , and lots of middle ground .


On the one hand , custom $100 shirts just for CCW won't fly in this room , or most rooms that don't include an expense account or clothing allowance .

But the opposite of to the effect of " By golly , I insist on wearing only painted on jeans and spandex ' is very limiting .

As multiple people have commented , lots of options with " regular " ( in both senses) clothing of slightly different cut , or fabric , or pattern , sometimes sized one half to one size larger , that lend well to concealment of even large- ish pistols . And as noted , much of it is well suited to everyday wear even when not packing .

Among some , there is a mantra of * Dress Around the Gun * .

To become a routinely armed person it's not mandatory to be dressed exactly the same as before .

What is desired is to :

Not scream GUN
Have an appearance that doesn't make you stand out for the place and setting . Sometimes you might be a half step more casual , Or a half step dressier , but that's well within normal variation of regular people .

Admittedly , Business Casual is probably the most challenging . Luckily , I'm not forced to , and wouldn't voluntarily do so , being the abovementioned slightly more up , or slightly more down .

Even if hot and humid , cargo shorts and Hawaiian / Mexican/ short sleeve work or western shirt is still common seen in public vs gym shorts and thin t shirt .
