Love pontoons. Our current boat is a tritoon. Slow? This is what I drive for hire. 4 mph tops.

We also have a Pontoon. Neighbor on one side says that our back yards looks like Hong Kong with the 2 boats and wave runners for us and the neighbor on the other side of me.
The pontoon is GREAT for entertaining as well as we use it for bay fishing. Son #2 and wife seem more at ease with the toon than taking the fishing boat out.

T84 I bet you have some stories to tell with those Tiki barges

They have a saying about boats. "If it's not broken, it's breaking".

Outboards are generally the least maintenance heavy, not including those million dollar + outboards that have 2,3,4 or up to 6 outboard engines.

I prefer a broad reach on West River in front of a cold front and line of T-storms, flat water, Hobie 16 double trapeeze, going 26+kts, 9 ft rooster tails of the rudders that are humming and on the very edge of disaster, (ie pitchpolling at 26 kts on a trapeeze is like going 26 to 0 in 1 second.). Going almost twice as fast in my Sea Hawk on flat water is fun but does not have quite the same thrill factor. Going only 10kts in a 3-4' Bay chop in the Hawk will beat the crap out of your back but is very comfortable at trolling speeds. Whatever makes your boat float. :-)

I'm a monohull guy, so those speeds are incredible, but having spent a lot of time with a full spinnaker and trying to drive to keep the boat under the 'chute is incredible. And having been party to a number of knockdowns and broaches, there's a real exhilaration about sailing that's hard to convey. It really has to be experienced.

"Hour and hours of sheer boredom, interspersed with moments of stark terror!"

Yeah those video take the need for speed out of my boating. I’ll stick to 20 or so with my skiff going to and from my fishing or crabbing spots. Pontoon for the taking the kids out

I death rolled a Jet 14 under the chute once while planing in the West River during a race. Jibing the same boat w/ the chute up was also exciting but I still prefer screaming reaches on the Hobie. Regretfully, I'm too old to try kite sailing/flying. Those manics scream up to 58kts! https://www.surfertoday.com/kiteboa...reaks-his-own-world-speed-kiteboarding-record

There is a new vid with two people getting ejected from an airborne inverted speed boat, but I can't get that to post.

    I did find this oldie...
FF to about 2 mins for the money shot.
I'm not seeing much fun with this...

I watched that over and over again....I'm dying laughing :lol2: . The captain looks like he just faceplants to the left...I'd love to see it in slow motion, over and over again

The coast guardsmen in my soul will forever hate go-fasts in which our occupants aren't wearing PFD's and there's frequently alcohol involved. An ******* boater going way too fast for the conditions led to one of the worst mornings of my life and I will hear his panicked cries of "he's a good swimmer" for the rest of my life.

You can learn a lot from other people's mistakes, especially dumb ar$es.

Often at lunch I watch a couple boat channels that show boats going through inlets and the stupid stuff people do.
    Here is one.
I own or have owned a variety of watercraft in the past 20 years but NEVER wanted a muscle boat.
Its like how BMW owners go to a special seminar to be an A-hole driver, Muscle boaters often go to a seminar on how to be a dumb Arse

Watch the guy at 4:45 and how he handles the little boat and the following seas perfectly.
Even the guy right after him in the Intrepid, is not thinking about impressing someone with speed and handles his throttle correctly

That's a great channel. My fave episodes are when they do Boats v Haulover.

My BIL had a 21' Skeeter bass boat with a two stroke Yamaha 225 outboard and that sucker would do 75 - 80mph which used to scare the crap out of me when we were on a southern lake at "first light" hauling azz to his honey hole.

He just sold it to buy a new Caymas.
