Don't get me wrong, I am over the moon about finally being able to exercise my right to carry in MD, but does anyone else think that the quality of the permit card itself seems like something someone made in their basement. I also have a Utah permit and that is like a driver's license with a hologram and seems more professional and harder to be able to fake. Even my HQL with the photo on it seems "more real" than the permit does. I wonder if stopped by police in another state if they would even believe that it is real.

PA’s is practically a laminated business card.
I mean, they print it while you wait. I figured they just printed it on a medium quality inkjet in the office on higher quality paper, cut it out and then stuck it through their laminator.

Just wait until they move to paper, or laminated paper lol. Or a QR code stored in your phone. They can look you up so I am not sure the point of a card.

The card was important when WC was a privilege, during the boomer era of carrying pictures in your wallet.

I had a brief chat with a Loudon County sheriff's deputy yesterday. The carry issue came up. I showed him my Maryland Permit (I've had this particular one for a couple and a half years) - it was the first one he'd ever seen. Right across the Potomac River from him, and after years of traffic stops with Maryland tags, had never encountered a MD W&C permit. We agreed that wasn't surprising, but I explained that he's far, far more likely to see another one going forward. He was all for it.

I then showed him my PA permit, and he said, "You have got to be kidding me!" It really does look phony. But he said it really didn't matter because if things weren't looking right with somebody he'd be on the computer or the phone to get the info anyway. Still, that PA permit does indeed look like amateur hour.

Does it matter what the card is anyway?

    “In this day and age”

Any position you might find yourself showing the card will have the cop verifying anyway.

Virginia's NR used to be nothing more than a business card with a printed out picture glued on the back that was laminated. It would not fit in your wallet properly. That changed to a D/L type card when I renewed last year.

Years ago my buddy showed me his permit from out of state from when he was stationed there. Hands it to me and says, “You’ve probably never seen one of these before.” He was right, I was in awe because it was impossible for me to obtain. It did appear to be similar to a driver’s license. So I can totally see getting some cheap ass card in the mail thinking, “This is what people had to fight so hard for all these years?!?!” even if it is merely a formality and represents rights granted to us by default which were restricted by clueless politicians that shouldn’t even require any card or licensing scheme whatsoever.

The MD W&C Permits used to have a cheap clear plastic sheet on the front and back that can peel off if you're not careful. Every one of mine has peeled off but the data seems to stay put and not wear off.

My most recent permit was issued in 2021, so I'm not sure if they are still that way.

I now use a dedicated wallet for permits, ffl, and other gun stuff which tends to keep things in better shape.
