    Ask your FFL.
MD is "shall issue" for handgun purchases (7th day release) so strictly speaking, you can pick up on the 7th day. The FFL may or may not honor that. If you are under 21 there could be some quirks around the new law Biden signed that would affect NICS, although I did not see an MSP advisory.

I take it you had to do that before?

    Would they even tell ya?
I have not but I have been told by others sometimes it is system error and it is sort of a catch all status. Also have been told it can be related to similar names and the further "investigation" by a person there is needed.

With all the clearances I have have for various govt agencies I have never had that problem. In most cases on non-regulated I am in and out in minutes.

Your comment on similar name seems to be common reason

Did you happen to renew your driver's license recently? I did because I moved, but I did not realize that they had completely changed my soundex number. I had created (but not yet used) a 77r app with the new address but the old number. I suspect there may have been a delay if I had submitted.

    Just a thought.

That's crazy. I lived in Alabama for about 15 years. When I came back here (yeah, I know I'm a dumbass) I got a MD license and it had the same number that I had since I was 16.

It’s a weird deal and maybe someone here knows the answer. I’ve had a few people with the odd DL number. It starts with MD- instead of last name initial and it’s a straight run instead of the xxx-xxx….
Those people also didn’t notice it changed.

It is crazy that his changed since the soundex is based entirely on name and DOB. (And therefore shouldn't change unless Maryland is now doing something different.)

Tell me about it! Not only is my old number etched into my brain, it's also engraved on just about every tool that I own :(

The new one is nothing like the old one at all, and isn't even broken up with dashes or spaces to make it easier to remember...or even read.

MVA has abandoned the Soundex system. New licenses issued since Oct are MD-102………

That can’t be the complete answer because I renewed in November and still have the same number and a customer renewed in January and his number changed.

I’ve moved away from MD and returned 11 years later and I’ve recently renewed my license and I’ve always had the same number.

Bump. I just renewed my DL recently and got the new MD-number surprise too. I did remember to change it in my newest 77R

I went from a non real ID/DL to a real ID/DL if that matters

I had a problem with a 77r a couple weeks ago. I got a message that my middle name didn't match my drivers license. I looked into it and on the 77r I had B for middle name, just like all the previous 77r's that I had done on the website. The state police couldn't edit it for me and I couldn't figure out how to edit it. So I started a new one, typed out BENJAMIN and put it through again. It cost me 2- 7 day waits and $20 but I got my gun and now I know! They can be very picky!
