Maryland Gun Shows and the SCOTUS Ruling

Now that the SCOTUS has ruled in favor of the 2A as it was intended. I think that Maryland’s Gun Shows will likely start to come back to life. At least that is the hope.

Hmm...Maybe. The big problem I see is that most of the dealers at the shows are from the Baltimore area. If you live in Deep Southern Maryland, as I do, driving 4 hours to pick up a gun isn't terribly appealing.

I see many changes coming to Maryland’s 2A community. But they won’t all happen over night.

As long as MD has magazine capacity limits and bans on so-called "assault weapons" not too much will change. Out of state vendors don't want to segregate their inventory for MD-compliant items just to comply with laws for sparsely attended shows.

Get rid of the onerous MD laws that makes no sense and they'll come back. Repeal them and they will come.

I agree though, more needs to be done. In skimming through the SCOTUS ruling I saw the 'in common use' standard stated again, at least once. I would like to see that applied to magazine capacity limits. If it were, there is no way they could justify 10 or 20 round limits as those are clearly 'in common use'.

They might be able to keep bans on the 50 and 100 round drum mags.

After 2013 I found that out-of-state gun shows/vendors did not even want to talk to Maryland Residents. If a vendor cannot sell in common use firearms well …


I think it was part of their plan all along to label the Best selling firearms to fend off an assault an “assault rifle’ and to grow the number of firearms they will be able to ban they have transitioned to the term “assault weapon” in hopes to include some pistols.

Assault weapon definition - best thing to save your life in an assault.

Thank you Mr. H... THIS is the point of this thread.

With so many folks poopooing the Md. Gun Shows and discouraging attendance... How the hell do we expect to bring back the Dealers? South Carrol is ONE OF US. They are there at the shows trying to stay in business. They are a LGS... Yet EVERY damn time they come to a show... they watch as some of US tell others to avoid the show. What do they do? So far they have been there every time, still trying. But, How long can they keep coming with this kind of discouragement. God bless them for their resilience.

The SCOTUS Ruling of 6/23/22 will/should see an increase in the overall attendance rates for these shows... so long as folks do not fall victim to the "Never Maryland Gun Show" mantra we see here.

I stopped attending Maryland gun shows years ago because I thought the prices for firearms, ammo, and accessories were usually way higher than I could find on line or at a good local dealer's...

Not an issue. Jerky is good, at Nation's you can get all kinds of flavors and even alligator jerky. The difference though is that at Nation's, Virginia residents can buy and take home a handgun. The 77R waiting period in Maryland is what ruined the gun shows up there. Maryland shows seemed to have mountains of chinese made firearms accessories going for top dollar, all sorts of knives, and a pretty good selection of jerky. It's a good way to spend a few hours after a big lunch, gives you time to walk it off. Maryland shows, at least the Frederick one, had some pretty good ammo dealers. The one guy who sold cowboy loads and the lady who had some pretty good rounds for reasonable prices.

Yup! The Timonium Show in the Fall may be much better, depending on Frosh and the District courts.

Nations has a lot of Chinesium AR parts. Raptor knock-offs in any color you want for $40.00. Most of the gun shows I have been to recently In, MD, PA, and VA there are at least a handful of tables selling chinesium for 4 times what wish.com is selling them for....

No love for the new members of the 2A community and all kinds of “What’s in it for ME?” from some, still. Is it any wonder why we lost so much over the years, that the SCOTUS finally had to come fight for us?

Those who keep hawking the “high prices/no good sh!t for sale.” mantra… obviously haven’t seen South Carroll Sporting Good’s table. The last show saw Sub2Ks at hundred$ less than the last York Pa show. But keep talking about what you’ve not been there to see.
