  • They are 450 calories each and have carbs and protein. The shelf life is long and they're pretty heat tolerant. They're not great nutrition, but they're an excellent "meal" for a get home bag or to store in a vehicle for emergencies.

*****Isn't that the candy bar that looks like a poop with nuts in it? I think they used one in the movie Caddyshack with Bill Murray and it was a great scene!

I haven't had one in years, but they were really popular when I was growing up.

If I kept a candy bar in my truck for emergencies, every day would be an emergency.

I carry a few small bags of almonds and peanuts and a couple Pure Protein Bars, 19-21g Protein, 180-200 Calories or Kirkland Signature Protein bar energy 21 g Protein 190 Calories, both are loaded with Protein, low Cab, Low sugar. A bit like C or K Rat bars but those were high in sugars and low in Protein. Along with a couple bottle of water. That will get you thru times when you can't stop to eat and you need some thing to keep you going.

Different size Payday's have different flavors. Get a king size vs a regular and the [caramel to peanut to salt ratio] will be noticable.

    King size is best.

WARNING: what follows is work avoidance.

Not being familiar with these, I grabbed a couple PD Peanut Caramel King Size bars yesterday that were right at the checkout line at Walmart. $1.68/each.

First thing that caught my attention is that it’s a b-b-big and dense bar. Lots of heft to it, enough that you might could even weaponize it inside the toe end of a sock in a pinch, if you don’t happen to have a roll of quarters on ya. If you do that, I’d def leave it inside the wrapper and maybe fold it in half.

It also says “3 servings per container; serving size 1/3 bar”. F that, I ate the whole thing . It was a snack between bruftiss and lunch, and I’m thinking now I’ll just save lunch for the ride home instead.

The wrapper sticks to the bar such you can’t just slide the bar out like most normal candy bars (i.e. Zagnut). You have to kind of unfurl the wrapper as you go, or just unwrap the whole thing at once which will leave a sticky thing to hold onto and potentially risk some of the peanuts falling off.

The caramel seems to hold the peanuts onto the exterior of the bar very well. The outer caramel is only slightly chewy. The interior caramel has a more grainy or doughy texture rather than sticky or gooey. The “stick to your teeth” quotient is very low for a “caramel” candy bar.

The flavor is good and primarily that of salted roasted peanuts with some sweet caramel chewiness added.

There’s a lot of bulk to this bar. I’m sitting here 30 minutes later thinking I shoulda just had the one serving (1/3 of the bar). Now all I wanna do is take a nap.
