I know Boyds is the best I am just not a fan of the laminated wood look. Is there some company that offers Boyd's type stocks in say synthetic or non-laminate wood? Looking to do some upgrades to my Mossberg Patriot in 308
Yeah - Boyds offers that. They do regular wood stocks too. Yeah for the configuration I wanted they only offered 1 Walnut.Yeah - Boyds offers that. They do regular wood stocks too. When you go into the configuration and have the ability to select the wood you want, the laminates are first, and then you have the choice of:
Walnut, standard grade
X Maple, 25% figure
Claro X Walnut, 25% figure
XX Maple, 50% figure
Claro XX Walnut, 50% figure
Circassian XX Walnut
Have you tried contacting them directly to ask them if they could give you what you want?Yeah for the configuration I wanted they only offered 1 Walnut.
I recently went down a whole rabbit hole with stocks for a rifle build I did. Initially I was thinking Boyd's laminate, then I was going to go with a Bell & Carlson, but trying to figure out the whole bottom metal vs magazines, which bottom metal, which magazine format, etc... I ended up cutting to the chase with a KRG Bravo chassis. It's not really the aesthetic I wanted, although I don't hate it, but it simplified the whole thing because the chassis is already set up for magazines.Still in exploratory, also digging some MDT stuff as well. trying to see which I feel is the most user friendly.
Yeah looking to make the change as well, that is one reason Boyds stays at the top of the list they have AICS mag conversion kit for my rifle and their stock.I recently went down a whole rabbit hole with stocks for a rifle build I did. In any case, I don't envy the task in front of you, although at least you have your bottom metal already...unless you are looking to make a change on that.
Are those wood stocks or chassis platforms?Looks like the choices are Oryx, MDT, and Boyds. Honestly leaning more towards Oryx/MDT I don't have to worry about a custom post bed down by the trigger.
Chassis. the Mossberg Patriot line seems to have a limited selection on things, wood stocks its boyds, and then MDT/Oryx for Chassis systems. I know MDT is the parent company to Oryx but their stuff has a lot of moving parts and choices, Oryx seems to be a nice compromise with Bolt and go. MDT can get super expensive but you can build almost any way you like by using some of their stuff with other manufacturers actual stocks such as magpul. Are those wood stocks or chassis platforms?
I did a rifle build recently and deciding on a stock was a real rabbit hole. I was bound and determined to stick with a traditional stock aesthetic, but I still wanted a precision setup. To me the most cost effective stock was the Bell & Carlson, but that presented me with trying to choose between the internal magazine, or doing a box magazine. My action didn't come with bottom metal, so then I was stuck trying to figure out which bottom metal, which magazine style, and there are a lot of choices there - the reputable choices were all expensive, and what I'd initially thought was going to be a cost effective solution with the B&C stock didn't wind up being that.
Fortunately with a Remington 700 clone action (Bighorn Origin) I had a lot of choices available to me, so I ended up compromising on the aesthetic and going with a KRG Bravo chassis. It solved a lot of problems, and ended up being my most cost effective solution because it made the finding a bottom metal irrelevant - it's already set up from the jump to use AICS magazines.
I always like to point out that this scope is not the one that will be on this rifle - I have an Arken EP5 5-25x56 on order. I have this one on there because I figure that I can at least get the rifle zeroed and see what it's capable of once I get a couple of magazines for it. View attachment 367223

doesn't look like they make ones for the Mossberg patriot line.I have a Bell and Carlson stock on my bench rifle. Solid stock. I’ll be shooting it tomorrow at Peacemaker.
Boyds does have non-laminate wood options by the way. Also, they have laminates that are coated with a green or black textured paint. This is a thumb hole varmint stock on my 223 Rem Tikka with the green textured paint.doesn't look like they make ones for the Mossberg patriot line.
Maybe but in the gun and style I want the choices are limited on boyds site. See belowBoyds does have non-laminate wood options by the way.
