Not afraid to release it, afraid to share it with the leftist clerks.

According to the Dobb's leaker, dissenting opinions in Dobb's had not even circulated as of the date of the leak.

If I were a conservative justice, I would not be sharing much with the leftist law clerks.

While I do support every state having CC. I still support everyone needing training.
I never implied that i supported mandatory training. I dont.

While my post was not directed at you and I never meant to imply you had implied anything at all, the implication is clear that you DID imply that training should be mandatory, unless your own definition of "need" differs from common usage.

If training is "needed" to carry, then it is has to be done and would thus be "mandatory".

    idk.

They are way behind with opinions. They were behind before the leak, and it looks like they have slowed down.

Might be august at this rate.

But that wont stop me from posting "today is the day" every day like an excited dog, lol.

The mandatory class time is BS - it's an enumerated right protected by the BoR. However: all of us know that time spent learning about the law side of this (especially the liabilities and legal jeopardy that can come at you in a place like Maryland that has a duty to retreat, etc.) is time well spent. Should be a co-priority for every would-be carrier, along with becoming competent and safe with their chosen weapon.

But: when the state hands over that permit, it seems sensible to include a piece of paper that discusses the profound, life-altering consequences of pulling that gun (let alone shooting it) out in the wild. The multiple criminal violations that an instinctive use of self defense can sprout, and the endless, bankrupting civil proceedings that will inevitably follow, no matter how plainly in self defense one used lethal force. That document should provide some guidance on where to hunt down quality training and self-education materials - something which every carrier should be eager to choose to pursue of their own volition. If someone is going to carry, they absolutely should have an appropriate fear of the consequences of doing so uninformed and unexposed to the realities of what can happen to them for doing so. When I talk to people about carrying, I'm not shy about soberly describing the Maryland Minefield that requires them to conduct themselves perfectly while armed - and especially while presenting or heaven forbid, using that weapon.

So yeah, that all matters. And people should be allowed to remain ignorant about it if they really want to, or just hang out in places like this if that's their choice, and soak up info from lots of old hands. It's hard to beat a class lead by a solid instructor, but it should be because I want it, not because my liberty to carry depends on it.

Does anyone have any idea about upcoming training for the MD CC permit in the western part of the state?
I’m in Green Ridge SF often and would prefer somewhere located from the 81 corridor, to Cumberland. I have PA and Utah, and once this gets decided I’d like to apply in MD. Preferably ahead of the rush.
Shuppies Gun Shop does it once or twice a month. He is in Big pool MD which coming from cumberland is 2 or 3 exits before 81.

Forgive me, I'm not a very intelligent person and sometimes need things drawn out in crayon before I understand.

A class approved for HQL training runs what, about 4 hours? A combined Utah/Florida CCW class, that is considered sufficient by 30+ other states, is 3-4 hours. What is taught in the MD W&C training that requires 16 hours of instruction? An 8 hour course covering handgun safety and operation as well as wear & carry safety and laws seems to make sense, based off of other classes that teach those things separately. Is the additional 8 hours/2nd day just 16 students doing 30 minutes of live fire one at a time and everyone else has to watch? Again, I'm a bit dumb, and I've yet to take MD the class myself, so I may be missing something really obvious.

In my case, all 16 hours were about the law surrounding W&C, a little bit about basic gun operation/sensibilities, several case study videos (mostly with an eye towards the sort of trouble you can get yourself into, legally and civilly), lots of discussion about avoiding confrontations entirely, or de-escalation if not, and then lots of Q&A surrounding things like how to transport/secure things depending on your circumstances. Then - completely separate from those 16 hours, was a trip to the range for the practical shooting exam (the actual test coming on the tail end of an hour or so of basic intro material if someone had never done anything like that before, or some some more observation/coaching for those who weren't novices). The practical test itself takes just minutes. So for me, including the separate trip to the range, it was more like 20 hours.

I'm also very dumb as hell and wondered about the 16 hours too. Seems like a lot of excessive time starring at the wall, checking your phone, taking a sip of your drink and looking out the window, etc.

I can see how 2 to 3 hours adds up on basic stuff like what type of holsters, what position to carry, interaction type scenario, and a few hours of range use one at a time.... bruh, 16 hours at least?

Maybe SCOTUS will release all the controversial decisions at the same time. That way there will be less media bandwidth to devote to each decision since they'll have to discuss them all at the same time.
