I got this off ebay a couple weeks back. Very happy with it.
I just don't see many shooting kits.
The scorebook has dates ranging from 1937 through 1940. Also appears to have competed at various distances ranging 200-1,000 yards.
What I like about this case, you can see either where Mechling or some other shooter, put in reinforcing wood inserts to help make it stronger. You can still see the pencil marks.
There was a serial number recorded in the scorebook, 1,467,120. The name on box (Mechling) matches the serial number being sold to him on 9/9/1936.
Mechling purchased 4 other rifles in the 1930s.
1,314,392 Style T on 9/28/1933
1,411,120 A1 National Match on 12/7/1933
1,406,819 NRA Sporter on 9/9/1936 (same time he purchased the rifle he used to compete with).
1,498,333 A1 National Match on 9/15/1937
I'd love for any of these rifles to surface, but who knows if they ever will.
