I finally got around to finishing my .22 upper for the SBR and I have to say, it looks pretty ridiculous. The barrel is still about 1 inch behind the front of the hardguard, so I had to make a short barrel extender to keep my hands from getting blasted with hot gas. It also has a cheapo folding grip for compactness. Also, I'm looking for suggestions on a smaller stock if you guys have any ideas!

Could do an LWRC ultra compact or whatever they call it

There's those ones that the rails slide up beside the receiver took like an HK. Troy might make one

Google search of AR ultra compact stock or PDW stock will yield a lot of pricey options

Who did your barrel? I have a 4.5 cmmg I need to Form 1

I wish you guys would stop showing off your AR 22 SBRs. I really really want one. Maybe get a 15/22 braced pistol and SBR it. So many possibilities.

Thanks for the stock suggestions!! Mine is also a cmmg barrel. I had a stripped upper and waited 6 months for the CMMG barrel and collar to ship. I bought a $75 5.5" .223 barrel to use with the cmmg conversion in the mean time. Accuracy just wasn't THEREWITH THE .223 barrel, but with the CMMG kit it's surprisingly accurate for the barrel length

You should definitely sbr one! Bear Creek occasionally has .22 complete uppers in stock for around $300 if you just want to use a standard lower.

One thing to think about as far as the stock, because it is a 22, you dont need to have a buffer tube. You could get a picatinny adapter (KNS, Strike Industries, and Bore Buddy all have good options) and you would have a number of different folding stock options. Thats what I did with my ar22 4.5" pistol and I like it a lot. I'm using a SB TF1913 brace and it folds up nice and compact. I guess the downside is that you wouldn't be able to easily swap to a standard 556 upper without reinstalling the buffer tube, but that wasnt something i was worried about when I made mine. Just another option for you

I also have the CMMG 4.5" and its great! I put a longer handguard on mine and just keep a Sparrow suppressor on it.

Yours would look good w/ a folding stock on it.

I built one with the 4.5" RTB/CMMG bolt/barrel. Being they don't use the buffer tube, you can use all manner of cheap folding stocks, pic rail/sig stock or PDW stuff. Mine lives most of it's life on a folding braced pistol lower, but have run it in matches before with my SBR'ed PDW lower from a 300BO build. That barrel would basically be a 3" due to the different placement of a 22 chamber vs 5.56 barrel extension. I love it with suppressors, can have a nearly complete tucked can under a 7" handguard. There is a cheap no name handguard I use, was about $30 each for a 4" and a 7", 2 screws and I can swap them or get to a stuck can. First pic is on my PDW SBR lower, 4" guard and Oculus in short config. The other pics are my folding P80 pistol with Mask under a 7" handguard.

That looks really nice! I also have a can for my .223 and it works really well, but it's a bit overkill and is stupid heavy for a .22. Maybe I should look into getting a dedicated one for a .22!

Definitely, 22 is probably the most fun to suppress. Figure a 5"x1" 6oz can can be stupid quiet. Rifle or pistol cans might sound ok on a 22 rifle, but usually not great on a handgun, and are a few inches larger and 2-3 times the weight. Rimfire cans get.filthy fast, and good ones are easy to take apart and clean. The applications are so different you definitely want a dedicated rimfire can. My first can was an Optimus multi-cal can. I ran all of 1 mag through a 22 before I found how fun, and how limiting that can was. Bought a Mask first, and it's probably the best all around rimfire can. Bought a Rugged Oculus too, and it's cool for it's ability to run in K or full size configs, but not as quiet as the Mask, and larger/heavier in full size. Knowing what I know now with several cans and hosts, SBR/braced pistols are the most fun, rimfire, PCC or rifle cal.

Hmm. So I could build one of these 22 uppers and run it on an already SBR's lower. MD 29" OAL does not apply to rimfire.

Looks awesome. Just finished my dedicated .22lr AR pistol 20 minutes ago and just waiting on a good deal on a FS1913 Brace to come along to be 100% done....and maybe a lower optic mount.
