IMO if your doing 87 in a 60, you are part of the problem and should be going to jail. I hope it costs you dearly.

Pffttt... seems this happened in VA.

In MD, he would have gotten a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic...

Also, note to self: seems cops are starting traffic speed enforcement again. Time to drop from light speed to just full impulse.

I had a 76 in a 55. I refused to waste money on a lawyer. I showed up to court, told the judge I made a mistake, and said if I have a wreckless driving on my record, it would negatively impact my employment, and I would have no issues paying the fine in full.

He said something, I paid the full fine, lookjng at tbe court summary I couldn't tell if I got wreckless or not, but nothing further happened and the points clear in 2 years.

Basically my same experience too. I was going 87 in a 65. Paid the fine and i think i got the reckless driving ticket. Nothing happened to my license. I wouldn't worry about it OP, just show up with your checkbook.

I don't know what County in VA it was in, but I was a witness and watched how the judge handled the traffic violators. If you were respectful, and had no prior record, he gave just about everyone a drivers safety course and a fine. One guy from Maryland asked if the MVA will find out about his ticket. The judge told him that, "if he completed the course satisfactorily, no one would find out as what goes on in his court stays there unless he says otherwise".

Now, having been in many courtrooms over the years, I know how judges personalities differ. If this was true or not, I don't know but that is what he told the guy.

On the other hand, an great pilot and good investigator got a DUI in NH and they told him no one would find out about it. He believed it and answered no on his Aviation Medical questionnaire when asked if he ever had a DUI. A year later it caught up with him and he was forced to retire. :sad20:

IMHO, having a lawyer always helps as it shows the judge you know how serious the matter is.

Happened to me on the Dulles Airport Access Highway. 80 mph.
Got the book thrown at me because my kids were in the car with me.
    Class 1 misdemeanor Reckless Driving.
I couldn't buy guns in Maryland until I got it cleared up.
I had to take a driving course and hire an attorney.
$1500 later + whatever the court fees were sentence was reduced to speeding.
I did try to buy guns during this time and was not successful in doing so thanks to MSP.
I'd never previously had an issue buying anything and over the years had bought hundreds of guns.
Eventually it all works out but it's all about the money! When I was pulled over I was carrying and was lucky because the officer told me if he wanted to be a jerk he could put me in cuffs and take me in. He almost did!

Heading down 301 through Carolina County at 0300 was pulled over for speeding. 87 in a 60.

    Any recommendations on an attorney?

    Thank you,

Don't worry - they will be hammering your phone and filling your mailbox with their info - in other words - they will find you.. What was the big hurry anyhow?

Exactly, sit back. You’ll get a dozen pieces of mail. It’s an industry for these shitty counties in VA. It’ll run you about $1100 after all said and done.

I got one of those in Sufolk County Virginia once. It was far enough over the speed limit that they considered it "reckless driving" and a mandatory court appearance. I was active duty stationed in Hawaii at the time so no easy way to make it back for court. Hired a decent lawyer who got it reduced to a "defective equipment" ticket. Well worth the $350 the lawyer charged.

Should have used a radar detector :innocent0

    Those are illegal in VA.

My mother got caught with one once. The officer took it, blasted it point blank with the radar gun, and gave it back saying, I would write you up for this, but it doesn't seem to be working. Lol, it worked up until it got blasted. I don't know if that is even a thing, maybe a coincidence, but that is what happened. It worked fine up until that interaction.

The ticket was on Thursday, wife received letter from ambulance chaser on Saturday morning.

There were two of us (vehicles) heading to SC for a three day hog hunt. Should have turned around when receiving the ticket, bombed out seeing any hogs.

Why the hurry - as previously stated zero traffic, straight divided road & just cruzin. As soon as we saw him sitting in the divider we both pulled over. He gave us a break and didn’t charge us with reckless driving.

At 3AM? He and the cop were the only 2 people on the road I'd bet.

    Irrelevant.

Not that I don't take such things into consideration when I'm making traffic stops and adjust using discretion but there are many more reasons enforcement.
