HK flat bending jig?

I know these are available on HKparts and RobertRTG (although usually OOS at the latter). I have a 20 ton shop press I am finishing building now so I don't need a work around to needing one of those. I was hoping I could find a lightly used version of these, but try as I might they seem to be unobtainium other than buying new at a minimum of $450~.

What about the homemade versions? Has anyone used any of these (for those that don't like clicking links, photos of each, in the same order are below):

Also, there is a 3D print version that at least a few people have reported works well:

(bonus points for anyone who has done these flats about whether the other jigs available from HKparts and/or RobertRTG are necessary (mag/shelf locater barrel press, etc.)

(more bonus points if anyone has similar suggestions and first hand experience with the same for Klashnikovs, but I am primarily concerned with the HK variety)

I folded mine prior to the 2013 legislation passing. Is this still a concern? Also, I still have it in just that form. Who will weld and build for you? These are one of my favorite looking rifles.

I have used the hk parts flat bending jig with another forum member and it made short precise work, no need for a mandrel afterward. I don't have one or of offer but I would definitely recommend it. I do have the long production style RTG weld jig that you are welcome to borrow.

certain configurations of most HK products are still Kosher (e.g. pistols). I'm planning to do the whole thing myself from bang to buck. This is far more than an Armalite (and perhaps more than a 19/2011, though far different).

That is what I keep coming back to. The few reports from the 3D print part report the same results, but with flats costing $225 - and the reality that they will probably be impossible to replace in about a month - I am hesitant to cheap out based on an anonymous random comment (or three) from the internet.

^^ This there are several "how to's on there" HK's are fun to build,
Parts Kits are Hit n Miss, Prefer The MP5 Kits use the LSC "Flats" with
Weld Kit, got the JIgs, a Friend made some (metal) don't have the Tig
Welder anymore (access to) my stuff is boxed up waiting patiently for
the move, same old line they ain't an AR (assemble) vs. Build.The 91's
are also fun to build / 1911's / AK's / and others.
"Jig-man" picked them up over the years.

Jigs ain't cheap, nor the Flats. well ain't nothing cheap anymore
good kits are crazy price wise...

It appears WG has minimum post requirements for a good bit of content, so I may spend a *little* less more time there to get more info. In all reality, I have always heard that was the prime resource for homebuilders - but MDS always comes through.

I have a FF Creator Pro, so printing one is easy - I'm just nervous about plastic in a 20 ton shop press (if only because I don't know how to not [snicker "more power"] and put the pedal to the metal so to speak. Although, I'm not sure on material - the original file on Thingiverse suggests PETG, but I usually use ABS as a minimum and Taulman alloy 910 for anything super strong (for example, my drone parts when I was still cranking them out - despite having long ago earned the nickname "crash" I never manage to break a single one of my printed parts when using that stuff).

I've gotten away from 3D printing for a bit and now that I've come back I am seeing there exists all sorts of high strength filaments - though many require hardened nozzles and/or all metal hot ends...

If you are serious into builds you’ll want to hang around weaponsguild.

Several people in this thread post over there too, but that place is a goldmine of info and it’s well worth building up your post count.

I’ve done a few hk builds and have a lot of the tooling. The 3D printed stuff does work but the knowledge of how to get the flat straightened is either experience or deep diving into the guild.

As soon as it is no longer a flat. Any work on it progresses the manufacturing process beyond 80%.

Yep. I have quite a few pre-13 80% lowers that I merely did the pin holes for....
