First of all I am a dysfunctional Vietnam vet. PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE.

As a member for 35 years I am always annoyed by members trying to make friends and ask about the fine rifles I shoot. If I have a problem with a firearm most members try to help solve my problem without me fixing it myself. If you want a quite place to shoot I would not recommend joining.

PS. I have been a member for 35 years.

...and if you hate to be a second hand smoker, don’t stay next to SKIP, LOL

I recommend joining AGC, lot of good folks and a nice friendly environment.

I find that AGC is a perfect place for a stress management especially when you hit the bullseye.

The grumpy old bastard scrounges for brass in calibers he doesn't shoot too.

I guess that bag of 6.5 Grendel brass in my truck will remain there for along time.

(then offers it up in the brass trade thread:D) as FREE

Free Grendel brass? Do tell! I just built one of those.

The AGC is a terrible place to shoot! Too many people there who enjoy shooting!:innocent0

I would strongly suggest joining a club that has activities related to what you like to do! It was not until I joined Stemmers Run R&P that I found out about highpower competition. It became my addiction and the rest is history. Baltimore Rifle was the first club I joined, WAY back when (around '79). Never heard from them after joining so, I left. I understand they have improved since then. I have belonged to several clubs since, including, Stemmers Run, Monumental, Chesapeake and Maryland Rifle Club. Each club had activities that interested me and made them worthwhile. I finally decided to go with just one club. I chose Maryland Rifle Club because of their excellent highpower program. Again, even if you just want to come and shoot, find a club that has activities that you may be interested in, because you will find your experience more rewarding.

You would have to join one of the clubs in order to get the range badge. I think the 2019 range badge is $190. for that you have unlimited access to the ranges and can bring guests at no charge. It all depends how much you think you'll use it. They also have range work days where you can volunteer your time and get credits toward next years range badge. There is always at least 1 RSO on duty and unsafe ******** is not tolerated. I live in Harford County and used to shoot at Elk Neck, I've had to wait for a spot there and witnessed some scary gun handling there too. Sometimes the road would get really dicey too in wet weather. It takes me about an hour to get to the AGC but I think it's worth it.

You should look into SLCFSA. Closer, nice range, club dues with range access is $75 per year.

In the 90s, we joined Stemmer's Run and had AGC range badges.

The club was nice, met some great people. We did shoot some club events. Had a good time.

But overall, found the AGC, AT THE TIME, to be more hassle than it cost.

Club did some bowling pin shoots. Then AGC stopped them because a ricochet might go over the hill. Pistol rounds against wood, REALLY???? And we were shooting on the rifle range, with the tables on the far side of where the rifle targets would be set up, so a ricochet would have to go almost straight up.

I remember one day shooting at the pistol range. Single shots, with my timer. RO came over on his ATV to berate me for "shooting too fast" reminding me of the 1 shot per second rule. Funny, according to my timer, my shots were running 1.1 - 1.2 seconds between them.

I just packed up a left.

I understand it is better now, but I joined SLCFSA, cheaper, nice, closer, less hassles.

^^ all of those days are gone, hopefully for good. It is not uncommon now to see as much steel and paper targets on a given day.

Bowling pin shoots happen about once a month, and now AGC even has 3-gun and 3-gun practice. AGC Action happens two Thursdays a month starting in April. Any member (whose been through the holster draw) can come out and practice drawing from a holster, moving, and shooting. Even if you dont plan to do 3-gun, its a lot of fun, and great practice.

I remember those old bowling pin shoots. I enjoyed them a great deal! We used to close the pistol range and shoot closer to the impact berm ( like they currently do with their shoots). We always welcomed anyone who wanted to shoot with us. Some AGC genius decided that we needed to move the shoot back closer to the firing line because of one or two people who wanted to shoot other targets and did not want to join us. Bad Idea! It was at one of those shoots that I was struck by 2 ricochets! I was on the grass behind the concrete. Fortunately both rounds were spent, though one did leave a welt just under my left rib cage. It seems that the problem was, the bullets would, on rare occasion, hit the pin and then the block wall before coming back. When we were forward, the bullets would have simply hit the impact area and gone no further. People stopped standing near me because I was a "bullet magnet". There are times when some people just have to step in and "fix" a non existent problem and in so doing, create one.:sad20:

I wish there was a place like HAP Baker in Howard County. Love that place. Simple to join, go and shoot. AGC has a great layout and is much larger however having to bring target stands has always deterred me from going. Wish they had the simple pistol rope pulley system like at HAP for the pistols and some pre determined fixed stands for the rifle range to staple paper too. Perhaps 50, 75, 100, 150, 200.. Obviously a lot of people go and enjoy the range as is. I've take a tour a few years ago.

Those suggestions have been looked at in the past. Problem is, the stands would not last long due to those who always seem to abuse things.

Yeah, target stands are one of those things that starts out with good intentions and ends up as a huge mess

We did not have those issues. As we did them on the rifle range, with the tables quite near the berm

Some one higher up at AGC came out to one shoot, and put cardboard above the tables, and because there were some holes (looked like wood splinter holes to me) decided rounds were going over the hill.

Having been to HAP baker a bunch of times, AGC is way better. The pistol range does have a few stands with wheels and rope. I have never really used them because when I go the range is usually not too busy, and self regulated. Besides, you dont need to staple anything to steel. 2x4 with a steel target and you are done for the day.

oh, and if the guy next to you is bugging you, get a bigger muzzle brake. Solves a lot of problems and blows the smoke away too.

ETA: if the guy three lanes over is bugging you, get a mini-14. :lol2:

Look into Baltimore Rifle Club. Join it, take the mandatory walk thru, & you're in. Nothing else needed. Oh yes, & I believe AGC is worth it.

Agreed. That is how I joined. I just wanted a place to shoot, with no further commitment. I joined Baltimore Rifle and it worked out well. After being there a year, I then gravitated towards another club that was more aligned with my interests. So I joined that club, MDTCA. BRC is a good way to get started and give it a try for a year.
