I live about 10 miles from the club I belong to. I am usually there all by my self during the week. I go when I can.
I live less than 2 miles from an indoor range which I joined this last year and have been almost enough times to pay for the membership. I used to go to AGC, but that is 30 plus miles and I just don't have that kind of time anymore.
I do go up to Redlion PA a couple of times a year to a buddies farm. But that takes planning in advance.

I am less than 15 minutes away from AGC. I belong to Damscus IWLA. I personally like the vibe there better and don’t like having RSOs literally or proverbially breathing down my neck.

I am 25min from Damascus IWLA. AGC has nicer facilities. Damascus IWLA is good enough.

I do wish I belonged to a place that would let me shoot 25yd steel for pistol and 100yd+ steel for rifle. Not the end of my world. I also wish I belonged to a range that had a few 300yd+ lanes.

Some day. For now Damascus IWLA works great for me and my kids. I plan to join Carroll County Gun Club for trap as I am a little over 15 minutes from themand it is cheap. I just need to brush up on what the extra duties are as a member. Not a ton of spare time, but the flexibility of being able to shoot trap (there) not just on Sundays from 1-4 and Wednesday’s from 5-9 would be nice.

I shoot 25yd steel pistol and 100yd steel rifle at AGC on a regular basis.

After living with a 200yd rifle /steel handgun range withing 3 miles of me, don't think I would move anywhere that didn't have a place to shoot within 15 minutes. Really nice to test out builds on my lunchbreak, or do a mag or two worth of live-fire practice on the way home from the gym before work a couple times a week. I get more out of shooting for 10 minutes 3X a week than a few hours of shooting every month as I did back living in MD.

I drive about an hour to get to a large flat area of open National Forest land all to myself where I can shoot how and what I want.

Meh. I miss being out west. Other than my time spend living near BLM land, I seem to always be about 45min. To 1 hour from a decent range. I want to keep my skills up so I make the drive.

That happened at Savage in Garrett county. 25 yards out they have steel in ground guess to set targets in also there target frames are steel (like made out of rebar). Guy had his target out about 10 yards and maybe 5ft off ground. There are no ROs there. Nice part about up there very seldom are people even there shooting . Most people I have met there been great .except this guy who was shooting low . He told me it was his first handgun . Was with my son .we just wrapped up and left. This is a public range . But I am very comfortable with AGC . Went ther and watched couple times before shooting.

google is your friend, I am not.
I took his comment to refer to a range other than the AGC?

ok! I misunderstood your post to mean it happened at AGC.

Depends on the quality of the range and how much it costs to be a memeber. Right now I go to the Green Ridge State Forrest range because it's $25 a year and has a 100 yard range but I have to drive an hour to get there...

For me to pay for a membership it would have to be within 20 min to make it worth it to me. Anything more than that and I would basically have to make a weekend day out of it. With two young kids that is tough. I would like to join Baltimore County Game and Fish and have had a few guys that will sponsor me but just haven't got around to actively pursuing it when the time comes.

I live 10 minutes from the AGC. To my knowledge, it has recently become the only range offering action shooting with steel, shoot and move capability within a 2 hr drive of its location. The range badge pricing is competitive and the executive leadership has changed out to younger more forward thinking folks. No more focus around the high power slow fire or bullseye pistol thought process. There is also a new 5 bay shooting range under construction to support multidiscipline action shooting events. It will be the hottest thing with the most capability in the area. You will have to go to PA, WV or VA to find anything as versatile. Best kept secret in town for now.

unfortunately this won't be happening as soon as people think. check out the action ranges thread in the ACG forum. for the time being the action bays will only be available during sponsored club activities and matches. they will not be open for individual members to come and shoot on their own.

steel rules, shooting on the move rules and holster rules all need to be addressed and changed. the mentality may be changing but it will be a long slow process...

i'm basically paying the same price as peacemaker with way less options. but a 10-15 minute drive vs a 3 hour drive is the tradeoff...

I understand your comments. For obvious reasons, the AGC safety rules for individuals has to be more strict or it would be the wild west. If you belong to a club that shoots on the new berm, you will get your money's worth now and later. You can't find a better place with more options so close to a metro. I'd live in in WV but I like people and living in the middle of nowhere is not an option for me. I think there are a lot of members that don't know and understand what is to come. I am the XO for ARPC and am intimately involved with the berm project. It has been and still is a lot of work to transform that area into a 5 bay range. With an all volunteer force and restrictive county laws, we have done the impossible. It only takes one three hour drive to go shooting somewhere for me to realize its not for me. If you want to shoot steel, shoot and move, join ARPC.

AGC is about 35-45 minutes away but another 10-15 minutes and I'm at a range allowing up to 600 yard shots. I use AGC for benches and other social activities though. If these two options weren't around... i would easily drive.. 2 hours to a range 3 makes me a little sketchy unless it's a multi day event.

That being said, i would drive 20 hours+ to a range if it was the ONLY range i had to practice on before taking a shot on a live animal...
