    A day early!

I still think they have a weird beauty, kind of like a 10 who’s eyes are a little too close together and you just can’t unsee it. Also this is my first experience with Kosmoline. Jebuz, the stuffs like the Ruskies figure out how to cross boogers with Vaseline. The thing is caked with it to the point that I can practically count to 2 before the slide closes all the way boomeranging it.

But it feels soooooooo nice in my hand. I am hoping I can get it and my just acquired G88 to the range early next week.

Where did you get it? Very nice!

It was from DK Firearms. They have at least a few left. I had panicked when SOG sold out a few weeks ago and my C&R still hadn’t arrived. DK says good to very good condition, but I paid for a hand pick and this one looks more like excellent. Only two very tiny rust spots that cleaned up (in the slide stop groove and next to the lanyard loop). Only wear evident was in dissassembly there is very slight wear marks near the barrels mouth on top of it, on the hammer face and the bearing surface of the hammer in the trigger pack.

Otherwise basically no wear. The barrel was dark looking, but two dry patches to clean out the cosmoline and it is mirror shiny. Honestly I’ve never seen a bore so bright before. Are they chrome lined? If it wasn’t for the wear on the hammer I’d of guessed it never was shot other than maybe a factory proofing shot or something. At a guess looking at the wear that is evident I doubt this was fired more than a couple of hundred rounds (not that I am an expert).

Honestly I kind of like the commie slight purple tint to the bluing. I am wishing I had gotten a 2nd one that wasn’t in as good a condition to use that as a shooter. I guess I’ll just have to take real nice care of this one (or pick up another one some year).

Thanks! Still a few more i need add to the collection but its getting there

nice. Is the Swiss bayo matching?

(I thought I was the only middle aged guy with a man card that liked Fresca? Yes, owning a K31 w/ Bayo allows you to keep a man card)

Hahahaha yeah some times i need a cool citrus flavored beverage even of it is at the risk of losing losing my man card. Yeah the bayonet is matching. Does anyone know how common that is, and how much they go for? Just curious to know if how much i overpaid for it.

It’s not particularly common but more so than other kinds of military rifles from other countries. K31’s are the most common to find with matching bayonets but G11’s, K11’s and any of the earlier models are hard to find with them.

I paid $800 for my K31 with a matching bayonet, soldiers tag, and micrometer adjustable rear sight and didn’t think twice about it.

Right on. Hindsight i should have gotten a k11 instead of a second k31.

You did fine with the K31. It’s going to go up in value more since they’re more popular (at least right now). K11’s and G11’s haven’t really caught up in demand but I’ve seen a serious uptick in people wanting K11’s since K31’s got so expensive over the past 2 years.

I’d love to get a P38. Gun show best place to find them these days?

I finally got my Gewehrs 98 out of the stock and looked over. It’s too bad about the barrel as the metal is nearly immaculate otherwise. No visible corrosion under the stock. Cleaned out the trigger and oiled it lightly. No grit and very crisp now. I also sanded the barrel channel a little. It was almost free floated, but a couple of points of contact. Then some tru oil to seal up where I sanded.

More bore cleaning. Getting better. I am looking forward to a range session with new commercial ammo.

Gun show prob is best place. I just lucked into this one at a local shop and got a good deal cause I spend a stupid amount of money with them every year.

What's the slide code on the P.38? Looks like Waa135 on the right side of slide = BYF44 = Mauser...
Grips (well, right one anyway) made by Julius Posselt which were used on Spreewerk only.
What are the proofs on the back (spine) of the magazines, esp the one marked "P38" (vice the later one marked "P38v")?
Is the base plate on the "P38" mag numbered?

The holster is a late war Police, the stamp should be an Eagle over schwartztika but if it has a letter I'd like to see it.

Depends what you're looking for... and how much you're willing to spend.
If you are looking for a WW2 beware that they have been known to break lock blocks and crack slides,
so I wouldn't recommend getting a nice one if you plan to shoot it.
A decent mis-matched WW2 shooter can be had for $500 or so with some patience.
A post-war P1 or P38 should run about the same.
Correct matched WW2 will run more and like anything else condition, original / matched parts and no import markings drive the boat.
    You need to be on the ball to get a good deal at a show;
if you're looking at WW2 I'd recommend going to the P38 forum with a want to buy ad, or a good dealer that specializes in them.

Now that you have C&R in hand the world is your oyster.
Well, most of the US is anyway.
