My short list for 2018 has shrunk considerably...
Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless Type II (Yes, it's been on my list for a decade and still no luck, maybe this is the year)
    Early Winchester 52
    Winchester 1903 / 63
    Colt pre-Woodsman
P08 Navy - I was fortunate to shoot one many years ago and it was such an amazing experience that it still haunts me to this day. They're expensive as all get out but I'd gladly settle for a mix master that I could shoot without trepidation.

Getting close to that tipping point where I'll be force to accept reality and start finding new homes for the collection as I get older and time to do it starts running out. It's taken me nearly 40 yrs to get to this point and I'm sure it would take a solid 20 yrs to sell it off a couple pcs per month.

Don’t know. It has the same finish as the rest of the revolver except the top of the frame and rear sight, which have a matte finish.

Could certainly be, I am not the expert on this. There are a lots of variables here, the custom shop could have used different hammers, it could have been refinished or that could have been the factory's practice. There are lots of situations that could have accounted for differences, for example I have a Colt Peacemaker which has a factory matte finish due to a factory strike. Id defer to someone with more experience. My 198ish S&W and my 2010ish Model 25 both have heat treated in the white hammers and triggers.

This thread made me pull out the VKT M91 that I purchased because I realized that I hadn’t spent any time with it since I received it. When I got it, a prior owner had completely jacked the thing up with aftermarket shims at almost every point at which the action touches the stock - sometimes 2 shims deep. It was so bad that the receiver tang was sitting at least 1/16” above the wood line and the bolt, when outside of the action, could barely clear the sear notch and only if I pulled and held the trigger as hard as was humanly possible. I ripped all those shims out. Anyway, it is a cool gun. The stock is a walnut butt spliced to a birch fore end, and the receiver has a Czech provincial issue mark (S lion 6), which shows that it was delivered to and used by Czechoslovakia after WW1. It has a few other interesting features, like a dragoon rear sight leaf. The finish on the barrel shank is kind of jacked up but it’s a cool rifle.

Not me but my list is fairly simple for next year:

    - CYQ and SVW P38
    - Early 60s post war PPK (saw one recently bond style and it was sweet) in .32
    - Walther PP or Mauser HSC
    - Anything Webley
    - Maybe a S&W victory
    - A couple CZ50s just because they are coming in cheap right now.

Now if C&R still exists when we get into the 1970s guns that will change as they turn 50. Then you start getting into Dan Wessons, CZ75s, lots of Rugers etc.

Other than that its really targets of opportunity. What I see that intrigues me when its infront of me at a decent price.

Ive been watching season 2 of Penny Dreadful. County a decent example of a Mauser Broomhandle as officially added to my want list!

Everyone should have the experience of shooting a stocked C96 or Astra 900 Broomhandle. The giggle factor is off the charts.

Looks waay longer than a 17 handgaurd. Flat copper rivets can be found on p14 h g's too. Interesting how designs often times parallel each other to some extent. Here's a picture of a Finn splice that was repaired. Lot's of wood loss from a poorly done prior repair but it turned out well enough. Finn Splice.jpg

That’s not a repair. That’s a Finn-built two-piece stock. That’s how the Finns spliced the butt to the fore end.

It’s quite an experience. Been hunting a Prussian contract gun for a while and got one last year by a stroke of luck. Also picked up my first Finn rifle, an m27, as well as a nice Swiss 96/11. Looking for a good PU sniper this year.

Gaaa.... I only made it a week into 2018. Just won a Great Western single action on GB. Stop me before I buy again!!!

Heh.... I just checked out the latest Redding auction that takes place on the 21st. Only saving grace for me is that I'll be on a duck hunt the day before so I'll have to spend the next day helping around the house. Will likely still do some absentee bids though.....
