I signed up for morning and afternoon shoots this weekend. I know my pistol will run, looks like I'll have to test my PCC again this week before the match. And load more ammunition up tomorrow night.

i'm in for AM and most likely PM also. guys, this is FREE for peacemaker members and only $15 for non-members. this is a seriously fun match, run around and shoot down steel, what can be better/funner and the price is schweeeeeeet.

they are also having one of these matches this saturday (although i'm doing their long range match instead), and then right down the street, shadowhawk is having a similar match sunday.

I will not be making the November one. Unless they cancel the Quantico Steel Challenge match. I didn't realize it until Saturday, Peacemaker is, for me, 4.5 hours of driving in one day.

yeah but you can do AM and PM at peacemaker and the round count is way higher, so you'll get lots more shooting in per hour of driving. plus falling steel (and running around) is way funner than shooting five plates a bunch of times.

but i hear you, i rarely drive down to quantico or fredericksburg, or especially cavalier because of all the road time, and horrible traffic on and around I-95.

peacemaker is an hour each way for me, and very little traffic, lights, etc other than a few slowpokes here and there.

I signed up for PM right now with my G34 but if my new and better BCG from Rainer comes in in time I may elect to shoot PCC also and both squads.

It's a 30 minute drive to Quantico for me  Plus I pick up a ton of brass since we're required to police it after the match. I'll be trying the 3-gun match at PNTC again, since the guy running the Quantico Multigun match is ill, same with the falling steel match they run at Quantico.

you can pickup all the brass you want at PNTC as long as you help reset the steel and there is time. Hell, after you finish, you could go walking around grabbing all the brass you want too...

if you're picking up brass after a shooter, then you're not doing all you can to help reset the stage. AFTER the match, take all the time you want to pick up all the brass you want.

I've never shot in a formal competition. Debating going to this, but I'd like to get more information on the actual course of fire and rules/regulations on what firearms are allowed, etc? Can anyone point me in the direction of some info?

not a lot of rules other than being safe (firearm pointed generally downrange at all times, including reloading and fixing any jams; and finger outside the triggerguard unless you have the gun on target and intending to fire). basically they have a bunch of steel set up and you run around and shoot it all. couldn't be any more fun, running & gunning.

here's a youtube of me a few months back to give you an idea:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0lPsfagFQg

as far as firearms, pretty much anything is allowed - handguns, shotguns and pistol caliber carbines. if you have a handgun, choose 'limited' unless you have an optic and/or a compensator on it. you can run up to 140mm mags (so standard 17 round glock etc mags are fine).

you want a holster and 3-4 mags and mag pouches, but you can always store some in your pockets if you don't have enough pouches.

all i can say is trust me this will be lotsa fun. if you're still a little skeptical, come and spectate the morning match and then shoot the afternoon match. no promises, but you should be able to sign up for the PM match on match day as the afternoon match generally doesn't fill up.

jump on squad 7 in the afternoon and i will show you the ropes, but really not complicated at all. just remember your gun has a front sight (use it) and take your time with your trigger vs yanking it as fast as you can.

just fyi at the last match we had a guy hanging back outside the bay watching all of us shoot the course of fire. he was a new member (you don't need to be a member for their matches) and said he was just checking things out. i asked him if he wanted to try a stage and he was a little reticent but said yes and got his gear. cut to the chase, he ended up shooting the whole match. big smile on his face the whole time.

Loved the running commentary! In general, what is the max distance you are shooting? Were there targets to avoid shooting, or a specific order? This will be my first steel match, signed up in the PM using PCC.

    again, jump on squad 7!

max distance is maybe 15-20 yards but most are pretty easy to hit, again, if you (those without dots) use the front sight and exhibit a little trigger control.

every stage is different. on the one stage they had three boxes with different colors and you had to shoot similar-colored targets from each box. normally though it's just shoot everything. there is a written stage briefing at each stage that lays out anything special that needs to be followed.

anyone new, just make sure to tell the guy with the timer and we'll let you go last so you have time to absorb what's going on. again i'm happy to help anyone on my squad get up to speed.

Well if you have 3-4 mags you might need help, if they carry no more that 10 rounds. Some stages have more than 40 targets. Especially if you are shooting Limited. 4 17 rd. mags is better, 5 is even better in case you drop one. When they say 250 rounds they mean people who can hit 85% of the targets on the 1st shot. First time I shot one of these with a Limited gun I think I used closer to 350 rds. At least I brought that many just in case.
I signed up for the AM also. Ranier is shipping me one of the new Faxon Gen 2 BCGs for my PCC. Hopefully that will hold up better than the cheap ones I have been using.

    This does look fun.
But the only I own that MIGHT ba a qualified equipment is a glock 19. Does it?
If it does, what else do I need? A holster, and a magazine pouch. Anything else.
How about my shooting efficiency, or the lack of it? Guess I don't have to hit every target.
