Many factors in recoil, not just gun/bullet weight, velocity.
As far as reasons to go to the range, it's only critical for a few reasons, like understanding recoil management, so it does compute with the title of your thread. Most training should happen with unloaded guns in a quiet place with a competent instructor. Later comes the range.
