Do you have time line dates? From your description it sounds like it was only 3 to 5 weeks total?

I don't have exact dates, but it was much quicker than I anticipated based on what I have read on here. It wasn't more than 6-8 weeks or so from the time he mailed it until he showed me the license at work yesterday.

Currently at day 104 (72 business days), no contact since MSP talked to my references and talked to my boss a second time 2 weeks ago. I am trying to decide on when to call/email for a status update, and whether it is worth filling for a HPRB hearing now or waiting for MSP as I think I have a good shot without going to HPRB.

TS, OPM, NRA & MD Instructor. My only limitation was I have to keep my job and I can't carry where firearms are prohibited.

Had a few folks apply at the same time here are their results.

Secret Clearance, OPM - Denied (2 people)
Secret Clearance, OPM, Relator - Approved while doing Real estate stuff
Secret Clearance, OPM, Owns Rental Property - Approved while doing stuff for his rental property

Lesson learned Secret Clearance + OPM does not = a permit on it's own. At least not today.....

Its a double edge sword. It may take months to get in front of the board but you may have a better chance at less or no restrictions with the board. And an additional 2 months to receive your permit if granted.

They seem to be moving quicker on some. A friend of mine had his permit in hand about 3 weeks after his interview. DoD, ppm, etc.

Hope that is a trend, but according to 2 different investigators I spoke with, they are over whelmed with apps. Had my interview on 4/13 and was told I met the G&S as long as they didn't find a dis qualifier.

    Congrats in advance!

The wait is going to be excruciating.

    But worth it.....

I don't know your situation and don't want to be a downer on this, but what the investigators think is not necessarily what the licensing division will think.

Are they supposed to be separate? My investigator was from LD.

Just had my interview, it was quick and painless. She basically asked some of the same questions that were on the application i.e. Criminal history, illegal drug history, prescription medication use etc...wanted my wife's number so she could speak with her, reminded me to let my references know that they will be calling, wanted to know what type of gun I would be carrying, asked when I last had a physical altercation and reviewed my G&S and wanted to know what business I was in.

Interview lasted all of 10 mins max

She also said that the final decision is left with the review board, she has nothing to do with it.

    Still no update from VA

I needed to be a little more clear. The person doing the in person interview is separate from the LD. The investigators are in LD and they are the one's that determine if G&S are met.

Interesting, because the trooper interviewing me in the face to face interview, was assigned to Licensing Division (according to his email signature). I did not have any contact from anyone other the troopers assigned to LD. I'm I missing something here or is this out of the norm?

He stressed that the final decision was not up to him only that I met the standard.

The person doing the interview is basically a fact gatherer who then forwards all of the information collected over to the actual investigator. The interviewer is not involved in the process beyond that.

It may not be out of the norm if there was no reason for the investigator to contact you during the process. I spoke with mine quite a few times (I'm a pain in the arse :lol2:)

When I went through the process last year, my interviewer explained to me that based upon the interview, she was going to make a recommendation of approval, but cautioned that the LD investigator had final say and could ultimately overrule her recommendation.
