    Completely disagree about Colt compared to a Windham. Colts have fewer problems out of the box than any other AR I have seen. The Bolts and FCG Pins hold up better as well. Feed Ramps issues are almost impossible to find on a Colt.

    I have about 10k AR's under my belt.

    Well, that just added about $300 to my indecision.

    If the gun sits in a safe, get the Windham.

    If it will ever ride "shotgun", in your trunk, truck, or be used for defensive purposes the Colt is what I would pick all day, every day if I didnt have the knowledge and tools that I have.

    Well, it will sit in the safe, a decent amount. I don't go shooting every week. But, I would want one I feel confident would be rock solid enough to pass down to another generation, so, I may be swayed toward the Colt, again. If I pass it down, I want him to have one he doesn't have to worry about. I suppose I can recoup some of the cost by selling my current AR later on. Maybe in 3.5 years?

    Like I said we sold only Colts so that's where I saw most problems. The other shop was build whatever you want so not a good basis for comparison to factory rifles.

    For some reason, this statement made me think of the supermarket scene in Animal House, where Pinto walks though the checkout lane with a sweater full of meat that Boon had stuffed in there.

    Only, in this case, it's ARs instead of meat.

    Unless the Colt is screwed up my someone who does not know what they are doing, odds are compared to the rest of the AR market, it WILL be trustworthy. If you see a problem with a Colt, its usually so odd that it makes the gun collectible. I saw a 20" gun with one rifling groove once. Beyond that one example, I have never seen a Colt that needs to go back to Colt. Personally, I think the stories about colt from many of the complaints are full of crap.

    Colt may have some issues with other guns in the past, but AR's are not it. They only quirky Colt AR's are the large pin models which have undesirable features for many who use the AR for a more serious application.

    I can't speak directly to the Colt / Windham comparison. But I can tell you the differences I learned between a Colt and a Rock River when I took them both to Chad for some work. After he showed me all differences - I went out and bought another Colt 6721 while I could.

    Colt BCG solidly staked / RRA BCG - Very weak staking - ineffective - Had it re-staked and eventually replaced it with a complete Colt BCG with Gold extractor spring

    Colt castle nut solidly staked / RRA was put in with Lock-tight - Removed, replaced and staked.

    Colt mil-spec buffer tube with "H" marked buffer weight / RRA commercial buffer tube

    Colt m4 feed ramps milled in during manufacturing - smooth and anodized / RRA - added after the fact with a Dremel tool.

    The difference between the feed ramps was probably the biggest deal for me, but the staking (or lack thereof) also caused me to wonder - if you didn't bother to do the small stuff correctly, what other corners were cut?

    I would also argue the price difference - Are you really going to miss the additional $200-$300 after a year or two? Is that savings that significant over the amount of time you will own the rifle? I'm of the school of though - Buy once, Cry once.

    Not that I plan to buy anymore AR-15s, but if I do; it will be a Colt.

    We can't say Never, because we have seen surplus 6721's from a few PD and Mil Contractors. But the usual Patrol Rifle selection is the 6920 .

    Maryland loves 6721's , the way Penna is the driving force for Rem M7600's .

    Clandestine and I disagree about Colt. If Colt was the be all and end all of the AR15 world, everyone on the line at the national championships would be using Colt. You will rarely ever see one there and when you do, it has a lot of specialized parts to make it perform to the high level expected at the nationals. Colt lost the government contracts to FN for a reason.

    I just looked at the FN rifles after seeing your post, and they do look very nice, but are 2x the price of the Colt I am looking at, which takes the FN out of the race, for me. They also make a competition version, which looks nice;

    As for the Colt, I am looking at the 6721 rifle;

    BUT, would this Colt rifle be just as durable and reliable for the Joe Schmo as the 6721, or is it more of a specialized model for competition only?

    I don't know. I saw the writing on the wall in 2011 and bought a Colt 6920 from 2A. I realized a few years later I need to get some snap caps because I don't have a clue how to clear problems because they never, ever happen - ever. I literally haven't had one single issue, and I shoot it every chance I get.

    There is a lot of good information here and it boils down to what's more important to you. For me, I already have four average AR's and just wanted to add a Colt to my collection . I have owned firearms since 1981 and have seen first hand how brand reputation effects the value of the firearm. Someone mentioned that a new Colt AR can be parted out for more than you paid for it. I think that says something. On the other hand, the Windham is a very solid rifle and of you can find it for a good price, is a good value. [EDIT- and Windham's customer service is great, I can speak from experience] Speaking of good value - has anyone checked what JLowes is selling Windhams and Colts for? That's what sealed the deal for me. I think the other IP's need to pay attention.

    I think that last link is branded as a Colt but not made by Colt. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

    I will say that if you live in a free state, then the 6720 does make more sense. The HBAR "accuracy" (if indeed you even see more accuracy) is not worth the extra pound of weight.

    I would say I could use every ounce of additional accuracy. If I was shooting in the woods, the only thing safe would be my target.

    As far as JLowes, I think the 6721 Colt was 870.00ish while the WW was 670? So, not as far apart as I thought. I can probably scrounge up the extra 200 for the Colt. I was hoping to keep my beater BCA AR, but still buy the Colt, but may sell the BCA. Dunno yet. I know the BCA is what it is, a budget blaster, which is what got me into the AR fold. Like a go cart, it's cheap, and fun, but no Ferrari.

    Not sure if you pulled the trigger or not(word play lol) not sure if engage is doing their base builds(e4) but for 1k you get alot better smoother rifle with some basic features that make an ar more comfortable to shoot. Grips Rails etc that you might replace further down the road. Can't lose either way im not carrying g water for them but just pointing out a good deal. Local to boot

    Picked up tonight from JLowes. Very happy being a Colt owner. Pics below. Check this out; unusual lower receiver markings for a 6721. Says "M4 CARBINE" but it is an HBAR AR6721.
