Ok now I'm showing still under review, but now I have an expiration date.

Not really an update but usually before when I'd go in to pickup a firearm after the wait I'd be told my approval was back in about 3 days so I'm watching to see how long until final approval, not that it matters because my FFL releases on the 8th day, but I'm curious to see how this new process works. Screenshot of a portion of the application showing submission and initial approval date. I never realized there were initial and final approvals.

First impression from FFL perspective. First use was very smooth. Seemed a bit awkward turning my laptop over to client to conduct credit card transaction but that worked as well. Seems like it will be easy for me to track status.

From what I can tell it looks like when you get an expiration date that is when the "Initial review not disapproved" comes in. Mine was submitted and under review on 1/3 and just got the expiration date yesterday 1/6. I am sure that they are not going to send any kind of email or message until the 7th day by design.

Why wouldn't the client just hand you the credit card and let you enter the info, seems it would be no different than them buying a box of ammo and using their card to pay for it, they'd be handing you the card for that anyway.

    Exactly..

As far as this system, once a CC is used is the number recoverable from the process? I know people w/o credit cards and wonder if the dealer just couldn't use one and take $10 cash. That's a money maker despite the 45¢ CC fee. I'd expense that all day and take the cash..

Your post reminded me of something else. While I was typing my CC info another customer decided to stand very close behind me even though the shop was empty. I think maybe he was trying to see a gun on the wall, but still.

Not an issue for my small work space. Overall it is a potential area to improve however.

If the MSP's system adheres to credit card processing rules (PCI) laid out by the card companies, then no, it will not be recoverable. But we know MSP...

The danger there would be some malware on the computer that would capture the info as it was entered, but that is a danger every single time you use your card anywhere (witness the Target breach a few years back) and that's why the CC companies offer the protections that they do so your money is safe and you use their product.

Can't you just pay in cash?

Day 7 and no change to my status, still showing initial not disapproved as of 1/3/17. Pickup tomorrow AM.

Does yours also show the NICS number and the NICS date at the very top of the form? Mine corresponds to the date for the initial not disapproved current disposition.

Yes it's showing that and they do correspond.
I'll be anxious to see if it gets a final approval sometime today.

I am attepting a private transfer today at waterloo. Per instructions from pikesville licensing, we partially complete the application with buyers information then show up with the firearm, and the officer enters the sellers information and takes online payment.

There is still some confusion regarding this process. I will report back once we have a submitted application.

If one orders a pistol, shipped to their FFL are two trips still required?
iow, if the pistol get to FFL, can I just do paperwork at home as well as FFL doing what he needs to do, then just make one trip to pickup? Of course one would need to rely on FFL to inspect your purchase for you. So why this may not be ideal, just wondering if possible.

Id say you'd still need to since you'd think most would want to check ID, HQL and what not to see if you are who you say you are before submitting paperwork, and then there's that pesky $10 fee to MSP that need paid. Just my thoughts on it.

The FFL will likely still have to complete the FFL end of the 77r, so you will have to make two trips. One for the submission of the paperwork, one to pick up after your papers are approved.

For the record, the credit card information is entered on the NICS website. It is a completely different site from the MD licensing site. As the 77r is completed, the form is re-directed to the NICS site and the credit card payment is partially pre-filled with at least the applicant's name. I have not seen past this point, but it appears that the form is like any other online credit card payment, where you have to fill in the billing address, CC#, exp date, and 3 digit code. That is why many FFL's have the applicant take over for that portion. Anyone who has actually done this part could chime in...

I went to MDSP Barrack to do Secondary Sale yesterday. I filled the paperwork out on-line a week before just to get it done and ready for when me and my buddy could coordinate going to MDSP to make it official.

Once they figured everything out it only took 15mins to process the on-line paperwork. Still have 7 day wait, though, by law. But for those going to MDSP Barrack... The Troopers there are still learning the process, too. Be patient. Like I said, "Once they figured everything out..." In this case, if it had been the hard copy paperwork where they didn't have to log into the system, too, it probably would have gone faster. In the future as they get more experience doing it, I expect it will go much smoother.
