I'm a veteran... so I went FL. As a vet I did not have to visit FL, only submit the paperwork (finger prints, photos, etc). All done online and in the mail. No classes to take (I've taken SSSOOO many gun classes over the years, I don't need a refresher -- I should take an advanced class though).

FL also gave me the states I visit often (not that Utah did not).

From the first time I went to FL website to receiving my CCW in the mail was maybe a month... most of that was getting off work to get my fingerprints done (finding out my local finger print place was only open certain hours/days).

what ended up being your total cost to get the Fl ccw permit?

Had to be under $200... it was only the FL fee, MD police fingerprint charge, pictures, and shipping the package back to FL. What $175 maybe? Not sure...

I don't know off the top of my head since I also got the MD permit to purchase a gun (whatever that f'ing BS is called), collector's license, and purchased four guns.

I was also buying a LOT of ammo since Hillary was going to be in office. :innocent0

Glad I had that fear or I'd done nothing....

UT requires a specific course. FL accepts Hunter Safety or an NRA basic pistol course.
FL does not recognize non resident permits so if you intend to carry in FL, you must have a FL permit.
The FL permit is good for 7 years. UT is 5. do the math to amortize costs.
Fingerprints for FL must be done at a LE agency. UT has no such requirement

This has been a common themed thread topic of late. But I will repeat my usual observations :

If you will be going to actual Florida, you need Fla Permit.

If you would need a piece of paper for Fla , the initial costs will be essentially the same. Even if you have a piece of paper suitable for Fla already, the $15 renewals for UT at least break even at first renewal, and save you $ forever after.

This pretty much sums it up assuming the OP is a MD resident. National reciprocity, if passed, would probably steer a lot of no permit people towards NH's permit (no training,100 bucks, mail).

it's not widely recognized. The NH NR permit, however, is still recognized by PA. The only other NR permit PA recognized is TX, which requires a an in state TX class and range test. NH doesn't require any of that.

What other states recognize the NH nonresident permit? I have been having a hard time finding this info.

PA is most important to me, so I am definately gettimg a NH permit. Otherwise, just interested in states contiguous to MD.

    Thanks

not necessarily. you could travel through DE under FOPA protection. But either UT or FL will get you DE.

That's the site I was trying to find.

Delaware is important because it's on my way to my family on the eastern shore. Guess I need to get two.

Why would you not be able to open carry in your vehicle while traveling through Delaware? Seems to me you could do so without a permit except in the town of Dover. I don't think you need FOPA for Delaware, however IANAL and I already have permits that work in DE.
