I believe when the op stated transfer he meant to give/sell to another Marylander instate, not transport

    Read the OP again...

NOBODY responded to the Officers statement of exemption by telling him that he could not buy/transfer >10 round mags in Maryland.

Since the Officer is a Baltimore County Officer and Baltimore County IS a county in Maryland... YES he CAN.

This has been hashed, rehashed, re-rehashed and thread closed before...

I still do NOT see where Nobody said there was NO police exemption.

    Okay... here it is... (paraphrased)

Officer says "I am exempt from the >20 mag transfer law."
Nobody says "You are wrong. No one can transfer >10 round mags in Maryland."

    THAT means NO ONE...

He did not say there was "no exemption"... He said that the Officer COULD NOT transfer. He apparently did not even know of the exemption.

You are right - the op never said that and he was correct in his statements and the cop was wrong - the discussion was about possession, and the cop didn't even know the current limit for sale/transfer on the books (10 vs 20 since SB281). Many LEOs are ignorant about the laws they are supposed to enforce, which is okay until their ignorance affects someone in a negative way (false arrest, confiscation of property, illegal search, threat of arrest, etc.).

    Read that again...
At a friends for thanksgiving and her son, a balto co. pd office and I were talking and he said he was glad he was exempt from the 20 + round mag limit.

I informed him that they were illegal to transfer or buy in MD but you can own. He said I was wrong and I asked him if he would like to bet 1000 rounds of .223?

He called a friend and he said I was correct, I dislike cops who spout misinformation as law.

    Just a rant.

Suppose again in that traffic stop (of someone else, this time), he saw the mag as probable cause to search the vehicle and found "the mother lode" (drugs, illegal machine guns, child porn, and/or a dead body). That might get even more complicated...

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit_of_the_poisonous_tree

If the stop itself is valid, he's still going to have to articulate how he got in to the car. If his only evidence for the search of the car was the mag in plain sight, which he mistakenly believed was illegal, his search likely won't stand.

That loaded magazines PDF is super hepful. Printed out a copy for my range bag and another to keep in the glove box (I don't want to have to go into my range bag on the side of the road if it's not absolutely necessary).

Is there anything more recent or an updated post-2013 version or confirmation? I can see a less knowledgeable cop believing that the loaded mag question changed with the rest of the laws 3 years ago.

The Officer's statement of exemption was correct. His only error was the size restrictions on magazines in Maryland. For non exempt persons, the limit is 10 rounds ... Not 20.

The Chief of Police in Baltimore City was doing a radio show a few weeks ago and made the same claim. Someone called in to correct him and then the show went to commercial...when they came back the host (C4) corrected him on the air....It's one thing when a beat cop is incorrect...it's a whole nother ball of wax when it's the grand poobaah...

The fish rots from the head.

The Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson is an Obama back-rubber and sycophant and won't hesitate to disseminate bad info--especially if it suggests you are a criminal when you pursue your rights to purchase and own firearms.

QFT and now the Chief is licking Kamenutz's boots and chomping at the bit to further violate his oath of office by "protecting" illegal aliens from federal authorities. SOB ignores the Constitution and law when he doesn't like it, and makes up rights that simply don't exist to suit his own idea of what is proper, all while violating his oath and stumbling to Washington to preach in front of Congress on behalf of OweBobo as many times as he can. BalCo needs a guy like Gahler.
