Same general process, but done separately .

And I was being semi-nice, and it is a shame to have to be paranoid, but usually closer to MGA season we get several attempts of "Please list all the loopholes we need to close."

And I think they compiled that list by having someone look through the current copy of Gun Digest or Shooters Bible and pick out the guns that looked evil.

Actually, I think they cribbed it from California.

Federal was primarily about features, Md had features , but also heavily depended on named lists. And Md had slightly different definitions of features. And back then the Md mag limit was 20rds, so most handguns, and original capacity mags for ARs, M1A, FAL, H&K 91 & 93, etc were still ok.

I meant the named list. Not the features/copy cat parts.

AFAIK the Fed and MD named lists were the same.

My understanding is that the original version of the List was drawn up by a couple of Diane Feinstein's assistants. They said they went down to the news stand and bought a copy of Gun Digest and just flipped through the catalogue section in the back, picking out the rifles that looked scary. This was around 1988, which is why the List includes lots of weird rifles that haven't been available in over 25 years, such as the Linda and the Bushmaster
