I'm starting to get an AR or AK pistol itch.

To the guys who have built one, how did you feel about its performance, feel, accuracy etc. I realize that they are not rifles...but we're they capable to 75yrds? 50 yrds? A bitch to shoot?

If these are strictly range toys, I want to know that going in!

I'm getting ready to do a 9mm pistol/SBR build and I'm thinking range toy going in. For HD, I rely on my 1911.

I have never heard of a 9mm AR pistol ever being used for home defense, but I can see it doing the job well. Maybe not my first choice, but I would use it if it was the first weapon available at the time.

    YMMV

That is the correct answer sir. What gun do you use? The closest one.

I built this in SOTAR Build Class. I tried to put quality parts(as much quality as a could afford). It is suppressed by a YHM Phantom 762 LTA. In the bottom pic, the 3 shot group (in the diamond) was fired unsuppressed. The 2 shot group on the right, suppressed. All shot at 50 yds.

Thats a damn fine looking pistol. Love that Spikes lower.

I have found my 7.5 inch 5.56 to be accurate out to 200 yards. By accurate I mean that I can hit an 11X16 steel plate 99%of the time from a standing position using a Eotech.

If built right the AR pistols don't kick anymore then a rifle would. It's all about balance. I do not like or use a SIG brace or any other type of stabilizer. They are not needed in my opinion and only add weight. I use a PSA pistol tube with foam pad. I hold the pistol with my cheek on the pad and several inches in front to of my shoulder.

Several LE agencies have used them. I just worked out a deal for a used 10.5 inch 9mm Colt upper from A1 Uniform sales. It was an LE trade in that I will SBR.

Definitely not just a range toy. Truck gun, home defense, and whatever other purpose an sbr would be used for would apply to a pistol also imo.

Extremely accurate out to 200-300 but not as accurate as my 16 inch carbine.
No performance problems or functionality issues at all.
As far as feel goes, I will say the blast concussion is intense with my 7.5 inch.
Recoil is easy to manage with a good cheek weld on the buffer tube and staying on target for quick double taps is no problem at all.

Agree 100% I have been trying to spread the word on the ease of use of a good cheek weld, and dropping all that extra sig brace weight.

No extra gimmicks are needed, just a lil foam and gtg.

I would agree with this. I shot my .300BLK (8.5" bbl) as a pistol a bit before I got the stamp back to SBR it. Doing the pistol tube cheek weld thing feels a little strange until you get used to it, but it's not a big deal.

It's "easier" to shoot it as an SBR, but I do think there's a place for rifle caliber AR pistols - they make a fantastic PDW for anyone who doesn't want to jump through the SBR hoops, for example.

I'd personally prefer somethin' inna pistol caliber fer that, like an MP5 with a single point sling. That'd make a nice patrol weapon fer a security guard or somethin', but those aren't politically correct.

That leaves a 5.56 AK pistol. The thing I got issue with is the buffer tube stickin' out the back of somethin' intended to be used fer that purpose. Methinks it would be in the way.

I hate this thread and all of you that have posted. just bought the shockwave blade and looking at rainier arms barrels in 300 blackout for a pre-ban lower I have. I had no intention of a pistol build but the peer pressure is terrible in this thread. Nice looking pistol seawolf!

    Retro Colt 9mm

I went old school A1 with this one. I purchased the complete Colt upper and Yankee Hill dedicated 9mm lower from A1 Uniform Sales. KAK Shockwave Blade Brace from KAK's website. I also picked up two original Colt 32 round magazines at the Chantilly gun show last week.
