Yeah, Yeah... I know... it's NPR. For the record, I listen here and there to hear what "the other side" says about things. I found it interesting that they reported that Carry Permits being up 3 fold on a National Level, and didn't even put a negative spin on it. While I know it is a National topic, I posted here, because I wonder how long MD can really hold out long-term on this trend? The Gallup Poll has a good Demographic breakdown, but doesn't show real numbers. I'm rather new to this fight, so forgive me if this is not useful at all.

I was wondering the same thing! How long can the MGA hold out against the trend of other states and the growing number of Maryland citizens (both inside and outside of the I-95 corridor) who want to carry?

Our legislators don't work for the people. They work for their party and Maryland is a DNC showcase. Even Mike and Mike are just a couple of little democratic party bitches without any real authority in the grand scheme of things. They'll hold out. Just like they held out on slots for four years of Ehrlich despite overwhelming public support for the idea.

MGA will hold out until SCOTUS gets off their butts and makes a definitive decision on carry outside the home.

I tend to side with recent decision in Woollard decision, the panel which stated:

"As the Second Circuit recognized in Kachalsky, "t is the
legislature’s job, not ours, to weigh conflicting evidence and
make policy judgments." 701 F.3d at 99. The duty of the
courts is to ensure that the legislature’s policy choice substantially
serves a significant governmental interest. That is, the
courts must be satisfied that there is a reasonable fit between
the legislative policy choice and the governmental objective.
See Staten, 666 F.3d at 167 (reiterating that "ntermediate
scrutiny does not require a perfect fit; rather only a reasonable
    one")."

Looks like the burden to shift falls on both the courts and the legislature. In Maryland, I am just not sure how many judges are willing to push the General Assembly.

National Reciprocity could also force the MGA's hand when out of state permittees start carrying in MD.

If the Repubs can take the WH and hold onto the House and Senate, I believe NR could be a real possibility.

Be careful what you wish for. Anything one Administration and Congress can grant, another (future) Administration and Congress can take away, often leaving us in a worse position than that in which we started.

I find it hard for them to defend against an overwhelming change. They are dinosaurs, living in ancient times, thinking all the while how they are modern progressives. They are back-ass-ward dill holes and they must be gotten rid of. It's the morons they vote them in and believe guns aren't saving lives. I demand my right to carry!

OP, don't ever cut off your nose to spite your face. NPR has great programing on the weekends. Off he top of my head, This American Life, TED Radio and Radiolab are worth your time.

I never really am in a spot to listen to it out my way on weekends. I'll mainly listen on my way to work during the week. However, if I'm ever in the area during the weekend, I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks!

NPR is the only talk radio that I listen to. Although I disagree with almost every position that they and their listeners and guests take, I feel it's important to always challenge and examine personally held beliefs.

Occasionally I am persuaded to change my position on topics, but mostly I am able to learn from those that think differently than I, and because of being forced to listen to the other side of the argument, it usually serves to instill an even deeper belief in a topic. 2A rights for example. I learn nothing from the echo chamber of conservative talk radio, where everyone thinks like me.

I feel that it is also very important to have a deep understanding of one's opponents.

Click and Clack is my favorite. Really sad that one of them is gone.
