Twin Lawsuits Target Terrorist Watch Lists
    By CHARITY SMITH
http://www.courthousenews.com/2016/04/05/twin-lawsuits-target-terrorist-watch-lists.htm Tuesday, April 05, 2016 Last Update: 4:56 AM PT

"FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (CN) - Among thousands of Americans ensnared in the government's bigoted watch list was a 7-month-old baby whose "only crime was that he was born to an American Muslim family," an attorney said Tuesday at a press conference on two federal complaints over the Terrorist Screening Center.
Though the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Michigan, filed the lawsuits today in Alexandria, Va., where the watch list is maintained, CAIR held its press conference this morning at its offices in Michigan.
"Baby Doe," as he is described in the class action, was 7-months-old "when his boarding pass was first stamped with the 'SSSS' designation, indicating that he had been designated as a 'known or suspected terrorist,'" the complaint states.
The class action includes 14 other named plaintiffs, but the lawsuit notes that "there are thousands upon thousands of potential plaintiffs making it impractical to bring them before the court." ..."

    GOOD CATCH!!!

Well, Maryland certainly needs to be part of a movement to start branding 7-month old babies as suspected terrorists and disqualified from purchasing firearms.

    For the children. :sarcasm:

M&M and the sponsors of this bill, and Chris Van Hollen as a supporter, have to be among the most irresponsible @sses ever to serve in public office in Maryland, for this among other reasons. But then again, they have lots of current competition, so maybe not.

Due Process for innocent people who are being punished yet have never been accused of anything is sooo outdated... :mad54:

Is anyone getting any feedback from any of the legislators on this bill? I had 3 replies come in yesterday. Here's one quote that shows that our legislators just don't get it.

" I support the concept of this bill, but I believe that there are details to be worked out before it will be considered by the full House of Delegates."

Like the concept of the bill? :sad20::sad20::sad20:

I have received the following real (not automated) replies (summary):

    Del. Long = vote against
    Del. Rey = vote against
    Del. Grammer = vote against
    Del. Wilson = vote against

Brochin is the only Senator who actually replied:
I don’t think we should be using the flawed terrorist watch list for this.

Whats sad is this could mean he would be in favor of an "unflawed" list. That was his only comment. No elaboration.

    not defending this bill...but...

I gotta be honest: I support the concept of "keeping actual terrorists away from guns" (and frankly, with the concept of keeping terrorists away from our shores).

I think that everybody can get behind the concept.

I think that we are the only ones pointing out that the currently proposed METHOD to bring that concept to fruition is full of shit and totally unconstitutional.

If there was a way to actually *identify* terrorists with no chance of false accusation, and following constitutional protocols for due process and fair trails, who among us would be against taking actions against them?

There is a way. It's called the legal process and has been around for over 200 years.

If someone's suspected, then charge and prosecute and let the law do its thing out in the open.

that's a bingo.... although today they don't need evidence of terrorist activity, a la patriot act. but again, you have full rights until you are charged and convicted of a crime that removes your rights.

How about simply prosecuting and convicting them under the criminal laws that earned them the designation "terrorists"?

I think you guys are proving my point.
We all are for the concept of using the existing constitutional processes to keep terrorists away. Which was my statement.

I was being (perhaps undeservedly) charitable in my read of the Senators statement supporting the "concept of the bill", which presumably is "keeping terrorists at bay".

Put away the lances and swords....I'm not the enemy here...I think we are violently agreeing.

    I'm surprised by all this.

I was pretty sure that in Maryland, Terrorist's Rights Matter.

You can think I'm a conspiratorialist, but "the concept of the bill" is only there as a disguise, something for the Grabber Goons to say with the right hand, while they pile drive you with the left.

We all want to keep terrorist at bay, so they aren't really saying anything of real worth.

It's the fear emotion appeal. I wouldn't put it passed Rosapepe (in cahoots with Van Hollen) to use carnage imagery from the Paris and Brussels attacks while they wring their hands over terrorists acquiring 'weapons of war'. What they are really after is yet another way to deny a GROUP of applicants their constitutional rights. I have no doubt that if this had passed in Congress, the first names added would be OathKeepers, NRA & SAF 'lifers', and others until the 'secret' list also included MDS subscribers. Their motives are as insidious as cancer and just about as deadly if not eradicated early.

But, here in the PRofMD, the Mike & Mike Puppet Show is all about winning back the Governorship next election. Anything that will force an embarrassing veto, whether gun, transportation, or redistricting bills will be used in campaign ads for Frosh and others seeking to unseat Hogan.

I don't think you're a conspiratorialist; I believe the "concept of the bill" that he favored was putting random, probably innocent people on a secret list to be dealt with later. The concept was quite popular with Social Democrats and their ilk in prewar Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia.

The NEXT puppet show should feature my minion caricatures and add a few more with their distinguishing characteristics.

If you mean Talking Anus characters, count me in!
