Alright, this is gettin' ridiculous. We need a definite answer here.

Recently an older thread was bumped, apparently by someone who used the search feature instead of startin' a new one. One of the more respected posters around here saw fit to holler at the guy before demandin' that the thread be closed.

He's lucky I didn't find that before it was locked 'cuz I would've ripped him a new one. :mad54:

This now leaves a question. What the hell are new folks supposed to do??? On one hand people are gettin' lambasted for startin' a thread 'cuz we got umpteen bazillion threads on a given subject, and told to use the search feature instead.

Then, when someone does exactly that, and posts in a existin' thread they get attacked for that.

What is the RIGHT thing to do so people ain't gonna whine like a bunch of little girls?:rant2:

You sir, will get a medal if you ever solve that one! I think whining/complaining/bitching/arguing is the modus operandi of several among us.

Live and let live. Sometimes old thread get convoluted and you can't find an answer. Sometimes it's fun when old threads come back to life. Neither way really bothers me.

I just like interesting topics and discussions, with a dash of humor mixed in.

    this is a dupe thread!!!!!!!!!..........

LOL, JK. I was the scorn of someone recently because I don't live on the web and didn't notice someone had asked the same question as me a few weeks earlier.

Nothing.... People will whine regardless. :D

^^^ This. Whiners will whine. Its real hit or miss when it comes to a search. Either the input is too vague or it is too broad. I run about 25% success rate on searches here. I tend to go on the notion that there are no stupid questions except the ones never asked. I I can find a thread(usually requiring an almost exact quote.of the three title), I'll post a link to it for the person.

Completely agree with OP. I just revived a thread almost three years old. Man up and act like an adult. If you don't like it, don't read it or lock the thread. Otherwise sit back and enjoy the ride.

Problem is people will put a thread title that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand and sure enough the "dupe police" will be right along to flame everyone.

Just my opinion of course, I am a '13er after all

Yup, they come up with a catchy / funny / stupid title instead of just saying what it is and the search doesn't find it. Especially when referring to an article or news story JUST POST THE SAME TITLE as the article. Get all goofy in the text.

I don't start a lot of new threads for fear of the DUPE police! My only complaint w/MDS is the search feature, well, it kind of sucks beyond just searching for my own recent posts, or to find a user so I can use the PM link. So may I suggest we all just relax, and if appropriate have another drink . . . .

Post the MDS thread link, politely tell the OP to check there to see if it helps, and let the cards fall where they may. No yelling or lecturing. Some of us are better at searching things than others. Some are lazy, but that is how the world works.

    Just my .02

We don't close threads where I work, unless they get out of hand... then there is no reviving them, even with C4... threads are kept open for that very reason, to enable searchers to revive them. The 'respected member' was out of line imo, but I ain't a mod here... or the thread (whatever it was) would still be open... :lol2: ;)

Frankly, I thought he was WAY outta line, and kinda out of character for him, imo. It kinda shocked me to see that.

And then the damn "13'er" thing was brought up, which ripped open another old wound. :sad20:

I'm sorry, but snobbery is a form of bullyin' and bullies REALLY PISS ME OFF!!:mad54:

    As a 13'r also, I feel for ya... :lol2:

It is in poor taste to chastise a member for asking a question, even if it's by resurrecting an old thread... actually it does at least show that they put forth the effort to 'search' before just asking again.

It's the same on all forums, you have all types.. those who look before asking, those that don't. I deal with it every day, to the point that over half the threads on the FAQ page are all asking the very same question... despite an announcement at the top to explain the new situation... I tell ya, it's everywhere! lol
