Since it's mandatory to turn your headlights on when you use your wipers and I see only about 50-80% compliance with that, I'm not too convinced it's going to be followed. On the other hand, MSP patrols that stretch like they own it.

I agree with your percentages. Many folks only have their DRL's on which don't activate the tail lights. They are hard to see in the misty, foggy, snowy conditions we experience frequently on the roads.

People should learn/understand their vehicles, oops, that might mean reading their owner's manuals.

True, but the issue I have is that it never ends.

I believe the following was said about the NRA by the impeached, disbarred pervert, paraphrasin' of course...

"They are against anything that requires anyone to do anything as a member of society that helps to make it safer".

...Fast forward to today, we have a whole society full of mind-numb drones that need the gooberment to save them from themselves in ways like this.

Gee, how in the hell do they survive up on 113 between Georgetown and Millsboro without such stupidity in place, with it being narrower AND a little busier?

I don't disagree and You are correct it will never end. Especially when it comes to motorvehicles. I've got lots of thoughts on a whole bunch of mandated safety features.

Big government telling us what's best for us?

First it was seat belts... for our own good.
Then it was air bags since folks didn't wear seat belts... for our own good.
Federal maximum speed limit 55... for our own good (fortunately reversed).
Motorcycle helmets... for our own good.
Headlights on when it's raining... for our own good.
Headlights on when driving on a two lane road... for our own good.
No hand held devices when driving... for our own good.

For the record, I have always used seat belts, worn motorcycle helmets, have bluetooth, and my headlights are on by choice. And I very much appreciate when someone in the oncoming lane on a two lane road has their headlights on as it helps me judge passing distance safely. But should all that stuff be required by law? Maybe we'd be better off if we let people choose how to live, or to challenge Darwin if they want. As long as they don't take innocent folks with them.

What it comes down to is government greed and laziness. The only way to stop head on collisions, is to put a guard rail or Jersey wall up. That costs too much, so the next best solution for government is to pass a feel good law and hope to make some money off of it.

MSP had a check point setup on 404 New Years weekend for headlight use. I got stopped and a warning as did about 20 others. They were 6 troopers running back and forth from their cruisers churning out warnings as fast as they could. Seems like a pretty big waste of manpower if you ask me.

On a side note I do have my MD CCW permit, I wasn't asked to show it but I was wondering if us permit holders are flagged in the system. Does it notify the trooper when they run our license?

I've always worn seat belts also and I'm a Libertarian so I dislike regulation. However, for the driver of a vehicle, if no other, a seat belt may keep them in the drivers position in the event of a collision and thereby possibly able recover control of the vehicle. This has implications for more than just their life or the lives of others in the same vehicle who choose not to wear seat belts.

Just like conceal carry would stop some of the mass shootings you don't see Maryland forcing everyone to carry.

    yes that was mostly sarcasm

I see many people doing this AT NIGHT. When it is DARK.

    Stupid people.

    THIS is why.

Because YOU or a FAMILY MEMBER dies, because THE IDIOT is an IDIOT.

OK, motorcycle helmet is on the rider.

But seatbelts are important when other people are in the car. A fairly large number of fatalities are caused by unbelted people flying around inside the car in a mishap.

I generally drive with lights on whether or not it's mandated, why not make yourself as visible as possible to avoid a head-on or T-bone. part of this comes from riding motorcycles where everyone is pretty much out to get you.

My vehicle has DRL's and I keep the headlight switch on auto so it is never a worry. Just common sense to me to be visible.

People out to get me is why I no longer ride. It became more like work than pleasure.

I have issue with the DRL's on older cars. Many of them only activate the front lights. Nothing is illuminated in the back. Driver "thinks" (assumes?) they are visible when, in fact, they are not.
