Got a new shotgun last week and picked it up yesterday - Saiga 12. I've been spending some time on the Saiga forum and got hooked. I'll keep it like this for awhile until I get the call from Tromix to send it in for the conversion. I am on the wait list for 2009. Just hoping alot of people drop off so I don't have to wait that long. That gives me some time to see if I want it as an SBS.

8" 12 ga with pistol grip and folding stock seems like something I want.

Picked up a Saiga AK last week-- thought it differentiated itself from regular AK's. Plus, it's new Russian and if you move the trigger forward, buy furniture, and file the mag catch -- you get an AK that is indistinguishable from a regular one and can use AK mags. What interested me the most was that it was new manufacture. Mine is an '05.

The conversion is pretty simple, for the 12g i would recommend buying a surplus triggergaurd to modify and install. It makes for a more authentic akm look, then reusing the saiga trigger guard. If you want to attempt it, i would gladly help. Screw waiting 2 years , for something you can do yourself in a weekend. The only tough part is that the entire reciever is heat treated, and its some of the toughest metal i have ever drilled. I slotted mine to use a double hook trigger group, and the g2 hammer had to be reformed a little.

I did the fixed stock/pistol grip conversion in an afternoon. Test fired it 3 hours after i started. The only thing left to do is re paint and bake in my BBQ.

It is regulated - 7 day wait.

I was holding out for a PRT 91, FAL or SOCOM as my next purchase, but instead put what I had saved into this - sort of an impulse buy - I wasn't expecting to see one in stock anywhere. So it's back to square one on the battle rifle fund.

I got some 10 rd mags and they make a 20 rd drum for it also that I will eventually have to have too.

I don't think I'm up to the conversion - shortening the barrel, rethreading, machining the receiver for the folding stock, relocating the gas system, refinishing etc...I built one AR and have another started - this is looks to be alot more work than snapping together an AR. Thanks for the offer but I think I would only screw it up. Pretty cool you were able to do it yourself.

I think I'll try it out this weekend. Anyone know what type of shotgun ammo you can use at Continental?

I have the saiga 410. Its alot of fun to shoot. Havent decided what to do with it yet. Would like to get bigger mags, but can't bring myself to pay 80 bucks for a 10 rounder. They say the are comming out with a 32 rounder drum soon though.:evilgrin3 May hve to get that!

I not 100% sure, there is alot of confusion on this issue. I bought mine non regulated but another gun shop told me it was supposed to be. My brother is a ffl dealer now and he said it was regulated. I would ask someone with more knowledge on this to be sure.

    WRONG!!!!!!!

    "(p) "Regulated firearm" means:

    (1) a handgun; or

    (2) a firearm that is any of the following specific assault weapons or their copies, regardless of which company produced and manufactured that assault weapon:"

    "(ii) AK-47 in all forms;"

"(xxvii) Avtomat Kalashnikov semiautomatic rifle in any format;"

    Please re-read the regs CAREFULLY.....

    Avtomat Kalashnikov semiautomatic rifle

    The Saiga is a SHOTGUN.

I just got my saiga 410 last week and i must say, it's nice! Next month im going for a 7.62 and plan on making it 922r compliant.

here is the deal, the saiga's are considered "sporting guns" until you attach a pistol grip, or want to use a hi-cap mag...then they become "assault weapons" and thus regulated. pretty asinine...is all in 922r since they are import products

    check out http://www.dinzagarms.com/index.html

this site has FCG conversions and all kinds out other accessories for the saiga line. they also explain 922r and how to get your saiga in compliance.

Yeh, but it does say "ak 47 in all forms" first.

I realize that but its not the same receiver....it shares a EXTERNAL RESEMBLANCE and uses a similar action BUT it is fundamentally different......not to mention the fact that if you look up any definition for "AK-47" it refers to a RIFLE not a shotgun.

That’s a cherry piece. I did a little poking around and learned a bit about the Saiga 12. Something looked familiar about it, but I couldn’t quite place it until I learned that it was a Kalashnikov based design. Too cool! I like the idea of the 20 round drum mag too. I looks pretty tempting except for the fact that I already have arguably too many toys. Anyway, congratulations!
