Crazy rays os an easy pleace to get seat belts. For extra strength take two and sew them together for a little longer lasting belt.

Or even the rachet strap from a truck driver those are strong but im sure they get replaced. And i see them laying in the road often as well ;-)

Please explain in detail, or take a picture of, how you use the rope/cable/wire, and in particular, how you secure it to the gong and to the structure.

    Thanks,

????= chain, fire hose, seat belt, cable, rope I used chain.

The nylock nuts should be on the far end of the bolt, leave a little play between chain and nylock, this is how you get the target to angle down.

My structure is a permanent pressure treated 6x6
lag bolt, flat washer, ????, back side of 6x6

I also can get fire hose if no one can come through, we have a few 50' hoses that are bound for the trash whenever someone gets around to getting them there.

I wish I had a picture, but it isn't at my house here. It is very similar to the link I quoted. The difference being instead of chain going through the eye bolts, I use rope. The rope is doubled up around the top bar and tied off. Then it goes through the eye and ties back to itself in an adjustable knot (triple half hitch, I think). Do that on each side, done. You have to replace the rope when shot off.

While not easy . We weld a pipe onto it (Arc) then run a threaded rod thru um (6 on one threaded rod) which is supported by a 2X4 frame system . System has held up pretty well , the 2X4 's should be replaced as should the plywood (added for added support) . Works like spinners up to a certain caliber (most ak and all Mauser rounds don't make them spin it just goes thru the plate)

I use chains - thousands of rounds, rifle and pistol, with zero issues.
Plates are bolted to the chains loosely using nylon lock nuts. being loose lets the plate to hang at a downward angle and provides for freer movement. They recover plenty quick enough for follow on shots. I did shoot the heads off a few bolts but the target still worked until I got around to replacing them. I started with rebar hangars. I'm using angle iron posts right now but will eventually build something stronger out of pipe. I'm thinking of a swing set type arrangement but shorter that will hold several different sized plates. Rebar would work for that too, just be more wobbly. I've found cheap, easy to get materials are a huge benefit to almost any project. Not sure what you'd gain using fire hose.

I had been using 3/8" threaded rod from a pipe hanger bracket to hang my targets on.... problem is everytime one of the kids or friends hit one of those rods and broke it .. I'd have to go trucking across the creek and up the mountain to change it out... I can already see how much time this will save me.

With a PISTOL/REVOLVER, what is the closest (in yards) you'd shoot steel with for the following calibers? (the sites that sell steel targets say 10 yard minimum that that seems pretty close to me)

The steel I'm using is 3/8ths AR500 and Rimfire (AR200 1/4), hanging from chain (for the time being), and angled downward.

    22LR (Lead Round Nose) -
    22LR (FMJ Round Nose) -
    22LR (JHP) -

*** Shooting at 3/8ths AR500 plates from here down ***

    9mm (FMJ Round Nose) -
    9mm (JHP) -

.357 MAG (FMJ Round Nose) -
    .357 MAG (JHP) -

.45 ACP (FMJ Round Nose) -
    .45 ACP (JHP) -

ANY and ALL responses welcome and wanted. I'm just trying to be safe shooting with my daughter. Of course we ALWAYS have eyes and ears covered.

    Thanks in Advance!
