First deer of 2015?

Got this critter at 7:08 this morning. Maybe the first deer of the year for the state?

What were you hunting with and how far did it run? I've had a few heart shot deer that ran for what seemed like forever.

I was using a TC Omega, 50 cal. It went about 15 yards, down a hill. This was a MD deer, BTW. I live in PA now, but still hunt in MD.

I normally butcher them the same day, or the day after at latest. I'm going to hang her for a few days, this time. I have her in my shed now. I'm not worried about temps. How long would you guys let her "age"?

5-10 days as long as air temp stays below 39 F.

Well, it's supposed to be 50 on Sunday. Looks like she won't age much... I'll get it done tomorrow or Sunday morning.

I counted 17 deer. I also jumped up a few when I got to my stand. I don't know how many but it was definitely more than one. They went different directions, when they spooked. Maybe the cold has stopped the acorn crop? Dunno. But I'm seeing more deer now than earlier in the gun season.

What bullet/powder load did you use?

I used 110 gr of Blackhorn 209 behind 200 gr Shockwaves.

I keep thinking I need to try different powder/loads in my T/C Encore but, with 3 pellets of trip7 and a 250gr shockwaves, year in year out, it shoots 1to sub1 groups.

777 shoots great for me also. The crud ring is terrible, though, in my Omega. With Blackhorn, I've gone 20 shots without swabbing the bore.

Anyone seen these new muzzleloaders with battery ignition? I got a SG catalog today and they had these in there. WTH? Does it work? Legal in MD? You'd have to remove the battery to be "unprimed" for it to be complaint with the unloaded law.
