Anyone have a line on what the "new" XD will be? If there is an existing thread please post.

I got an email today from Springfield, all secretive....

I get the feeling it has something to do with the grip... Maybe going to over-molded?

    Anyone with any insight?

I have owned an XDM, and XDSs in both .45 and 9mm, improvements will be tough to come by

The XDs have been out 14 years, the HS2000 a few more, definitely due for some improvements, or consolidating with an improved XDM line, too squared, slide and bore axis are too tall, heavy, triggers are vague, relatively complex mechanism, XDM thumb pockets too deep, and the base XD texturing sucks. I own a XDM40 that I like, and a XDS 45 I love, the ambi mag release, passive grip safety and factory grip sleeves for full mags in the compacts are my favorite features.

Also consolidate to one mag design for the double-stack models.

Labor Day sale at Cabelas, I up graded my CCW from a mint SS, Interarms .380 to a .45 XDS. Loaded with Federal HST 230g ammo, I will never be concerned about "stopping power" again. The Springield Armory XDS website enlightened me to the free mag (Gear Up) promo going on. Within 3 weeks I had two new 5 rounders and one extended grip 7 rounder, along with the mag pouch and a compact carry case. I highly recommend Springfield Armory for their customer service and so far I have found the XDS to be an excellent CCW.

    Still unimpressed.

Despite a little undercutting to the tang and trigger guard, it's still got a crazy-high bore axis that should still result in a healthy amount of muzzle-flip. The new texturing is meh and for that size, I'd rather have 15 rnds in a g19. I was really hoping they were gunna bring that VHS over here.

I just could never get into the XD series.

They shoot well enough for me, but the way they fit in the hand just turns me off.

you don't like the GRIP ZONE or XD on 1/2 the backstrap?:lol2:

It is an odd height, almost a g19 with the flat mag, and actually taller than a G17 with the extended mag like it's predeccesor. Thought it could be OK if it was just tall enough to have a full grip with flat mag, but the 2 giant finger scallops would seem to indicate otherwise, or make it uncomfortable. The bore axis and grip height are OK, look about on par with Glocks and M&Ps, but the dust cover/rail hangs down quite a bit, and is more squared than others, which can be uncomfortable. The texture looks a bit slippery, but might be OK, seems about the same as Sig or HK, maybe a bit better then M&P, suprising to see swappable backstraps absent though.

Also not a fan of the 3" barrel, basically it's a really short midsize, so loose velocity and sight radius, and with the tall grip it probably won't be especially concealable. The XDM compact has much better capacity, especially in 40, but is the same height and width, but seems they stuck with XD mags. Seems they basically polished an outdated pistol instead of fixing it, or even bringing it up to the level of their XDMs, much less anyone else, hopefully it's cheap, that is the only redeeming quality it might have.
