ok... so i've been researching and thinking about buying a shotgun ever since i went skeetin' for the first time a few weeks back.. i've been itching to go back out there for a whole day to learn and shoot... and practice...

i thought i was sure on getting the beretta urika 2... gunbroker for 699.99

been sitting on it because i wasn't sure how "into" it i would be.. as fun as it is...

so now i'm thinking about a stoeger stf 3000, from what i read and researched.. it's the same exact gun as the condor.. but with the reciever engraved.. which looks pretty nice... the gun retails for 499.99.. on sale for 399.99 and has a 50 dollar MSRP rebate on it.. making the final price 349.99.

after reading the reviews.. it seems like it's hit and miss...with these... something about misfires which can be fixed by turning the firing pin 1/4 turn for it to hit the primer harder... the other issue.. which is pretty common as well is thta the shell pushes pass the ejectors when loading... or closing the gun....

i really want a cheap shottie to fulfill my desire to learn how to shoot skeet/trap better.... have some extra money for ammo to practice with... and some money to fund my 22LR upper for my AR :D

    advice?

i'm suppose to go look at a few used Remington 1100's today.....as well...

    stoeger review... http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/vie...id=5f2307ad2d9564f0c67a00ff64e2fcca&start=140

I have heard many negative things about Stoeger - I think I read on here that Dan from GC doesn't recommend them. I shot a Rem 1100 this past weekend and was impressed; if I hadn't aready bought a gun, I would be looking for one because they are cheaper but still felt almost comparable to the Beretta's I have shot (Urika 2 and 390). Ultimately, I think it will be up to you - but a better gun would probably make for a better "experience."

I am selling off some gear in order to buy an EBR. My 1100 is on the list. I have 2 barrels for it, one trap, one skeet. I'll post a pick in my gallery.

If you like skeet, you will love sporting clays. But be careful, it is easy to get "hooked"

get an remington 870...its cheap and will shoot and its a good gun to learn to shoot skeet with..if you do get into it...later upgrade to a semi-auto...that way you arent out a whole lot of money if you decide to change your mind about it...

i thought about the moss 500 and 870 route... but for the money.. i'd rather get a used semi.... dont want to deal with pumping.. especially not on the doubles... at least not yet...

I just got back from the range not 10 mins ago and shot my .22 conversion in my AR. I love it!!! I get the feel of my AR and not the bite in my wallet. just something to consider, it was a good investment IMO

Was at loch raven trap shooting yesterday, and a guy with an expensive shotgun had his crap out on him...firing pin issues....

Find something you like, you can shoot, and is affordable to you. Then have a ball.

I have been looking at cheap stuff...(just to get something.....) now looking to save a little more and get something a little more middle of the road

get the beretta....cry a little more now, smile alot more later

Thing is the Beretta is a better value IMO than a comprable 1100. For $600 you can get a basic 11-87 or 1100, comes in a cardboard box with a single choke and a flat crappy stamped steel wrench. The Beretta comes in a really nice slim and short fitted plastic case, 5 peice choke set, good polymer T-handle wrench, sling swivels, spacers to set drop, cast and LOP, and even a bottle of oil. It is also chrome lined and has a much better trigger than the low end Remmys, so if you include what it would cost to do a trigger job on an 11-87 or 1100, 4 more chokes, a useable wrench, and even a basic short takedown case, you would be above the price of the Beretta. The only way to go cheaper would be to get a cheap O/U with random quality control, or get an 870 or 500 and pump your way through doubles(if you are only looking at singles trap, a pump is just fine). Like most things, if you get a cheap, but unreliable and poorly fitted gun, it is going to bring a out of frutration, and a negative experience, however a decent gun will at least take gun problems out of the equation and give you a better platform to learn with, and progress. If you end up not liking clays, you can always sell the Beretta and get a decent amount of money for it as it is a very popular gun to start out with, and they are always in demand.
