Seriously, We The People need to know.

As a law abiding citizen of Maryland, a veteran, father, and citizen of this great state I ask you the legislature of Maryland to simply define what is meant by 'good and substantial'.

Regardless of who wins this next election for governor, lets all resolve to defining "Good and substantial" for all the law-abiding citizens that simply ask what exactly is the criteria to be considered 'worthy' to defend themselves against violent criminals and be permitted to carry a firearm.

Having the best means of protecting the lives of myself and those I hold dearest is "Good and Substantial." Not carrying sums of money, being of the political class, or needing verifiable and documented threats against me or having a history of past victimization. Self-defense of human life supersedes the above and has the potential to prevent further tragedy.

Self-defense is a civil and human right and the vast majority of States and jurisdictions around our country observe this. So long as you're not a criminal and can legally own a firearm, nearly all states except for a handful issue carry permits. For a State that claims to push for equality, its restrictive policy on armed self-defense only benefits those of high enough class. It would rather you, as a regular hard-working Marylander not be able to defend yourself in public and shuns you simply for wanting the benefits that a firearm can offer. It would rather defang the preyed-upon and embolden the predators of society. Too often we hear of regular people being physically assaulted or robbed in their day-to-day routines. Unfortunately, the police cannot always be there. Good-samaritans cannot always be there. Life is cruel at times and the first responder to an attack is you.

Requiring arbitrary subjective reasons to acquire a carry permit doesn't keep anyone in our great state safe.

To me, the whole concept of "good and substantial" is totally illegitimate hack on the U.S. Constitution. What's so hard to understand about "shall not be infringed?" Would it be okay with everyone if I decided that you guys can only feel free to speak if the state agrees that you have a good and substantial reason to do so? Of course not. I don't know why we put up with this nonsense.

Good and Substantial = Unequivocal Infringement. No, crack heads and psychos should not be armed, but law abiding should not be restricted! Period!

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, then-Secretary of State:[30]

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, as part of the first ten amendments comprising the Bill of Rights.

G&S means that it will be illegal for me to CCW in Maryland. The state has effectively overruled my rights under the second amendment.

I'd like to know how this State would define "good and substantial" also! Today's current definition (or lack thereof) effectively denies law abiding citizens the right to avail to themselves an appropriate measure of self defensive capability. Given the state's presumed authority, and the government's primary responsibility to govern on behalf of and in the interest of all citizens? I view the resulting reality of what is (in effect) a ban for law abiding citizens who would otherwise choose to carry as nothing short of criminal negligence and/or criminal contempt on the part of our lawmakers.

G&S SHOULD mean self defense and all legal purposes.

G&S DOES mean that you can't get a permit here pleb.

If actions speak louder than words then examination of who is approved for "good and substantial" indicates to me the states definition. It appears to be two classes. First the business owner taxpayer, essential to fund the states overspending habits, protecting their taxable income or assets for the states later collection. Second would be those cronies/contributors to the Dem party who have the inside pull to get approved.

My personal safety, self defense, and 2A rights do not seem to factor into the states' ability to know good and substantial when they see it. :sad20:
