The pistol market is flooded with big name and high dollar guns.....you name it:

    Beretta
    Glock
    SIG
    FN
    H&K
    Ruger
    S&W
    Kimber

and I can go on and on.....

What pistol in your collection do you think is the worlds best kept secret? No boundries but you have to explain why you feel this way. For example, if you like Hi-Points then you have to explain perhaps for their price and reliability.

This is strickly your opinion....so NO GUN BASHING allowed!!

Please name the MAKE and MODEL

lets hear your thoughts, you might convince someone to buy one.

Used to be Dan Wesson, but those are escalating in price. Model 15s can still be found used in good working order for under $300 a steal!

Id say CZ right now. Used to be cheap, rose in price, then dropped as commodities markets for steel etc moderated. Right now if you have an HQL you can buy a nice B, BD, P01 for under $550. Not bad for the one of the most ergonomically and functionally capable guns in the world.

    Walther PPQ

Glock 19'ish size pistol (so it is carryable)

Best trigger of any production polymer handgun, likely the most accurate too.

    15/17 round mag capacity (9mm)

    Not so expensive

2 styles of magazine release, 4 and 5 inch barrel options, threaded barrel option.

.22 caliber ppq available for cheaper training.

Really the only change to make from the stock config are the sights,

For me it was one I didn't really expect to like a whole lot when I bought it and that has been the KAHR CW9.

Nothing fancy, in fact it's pretty bare bones minimum which is actually what I like about it. Didn't cost a whole lot, is very thin/conceals easily in street clothes, for me the grip is perfect despite it's relatively small size, and although it's only 7+1, the magazines are thin enough and light enough that it's no problem having a few extras in a pocket.

Is it refined with a perfect trigger? No but it's worked flawlessly for me thus far and I'm confident in it's ability to do the job if need be at realistic/typical self defense distances and circumstances. I have others but I carry the KAHR a lot.

I have a CW9 and I have to agree...once you get use to the trigger, its a great pistol. The DOA trigger is really long but its consistant and there's no need for external safeties

I kind of have a thing for the older S&W 5900 series stainless semi-autos. A bit hefty for ccw but comfortable and stable in the hand to shoot. Not wild about the long trigger pull on the DAO variants though. They've been almost forgotten about and LE trade ins can be had for cheap.

Another one I'm fond of but I still don't have one of in the collection is the IWI Jericho 941(sometimes called a Baby Desert Eagle). It's a sleek and compact CZ copy that just feels good in the hand. The originals are harder to find now though, and batches of newer models are imported irregularly at best.

For me this is tough. I absolutely think the Ruger New Vaquero is an incredible pistol. A modern TANK rendition of an iconic pistol. Accurate, reliable, sturdy, and classy. One of my absolute favorites and as soon as my brother is finished borrowing it I plan to carry it occasionally.

Then you have the P30 (soon to be surpassed by the VP9 in my opinion). Slightly larger than the Glock 19, VERY concealable, twice as accurate as the Glock, and stunningly comfortable.

Then you have the Sig 226...a masterpiece hiding in plain sight. Accurate, reliable, battle/time tested, and just an all around great piece.

Browning Hi Power. Need I say more? It is the offensive line of handguns. Not always pretty, does all of the work, gets no credit.

None of these are obscure or rare. Just my thoughts on some great handguns.

    my contribution....Makarov

there's a variety of country of origins and prices will differ based on its collectiblity (ie Russian, Soviet Military, East German, Bulgarian and Chinese). Price is very affordable, I could have got a Russian commercial for under $200 this past Christmas but I decided not to buy it. They come in 9x17 and 9x18 which is still affordable ammo. The gun is extremely reliable. Drawbacks is 8 rd mag capacity, all steel makes it a little on the heavy side and the European style mag release takes some practice but its the AK47 of pistols IMO

I have the older Kahr P9, a little larger than the newer CW9. But, it's a little better quality. Easier to conceal than my G26, but also a heavier trigger.

IMI/IWI or Magnum Research Jericho 941/Baby Eagle

*I'm biased as hell. I own one.*

-15-17rd cap (depending on which mags you find)
-All steel (heavy, but steady and smooth)
    -DA/SA trigger
    -CZ75 clone
    -Israeli made
    -Looks kick-ass

It'd be nice if IWI took over the importation of these in the not so distant future. Baby Eagle isn't a cool name. Bring back Jericho!

CZ75. Dead reliable, all steel and plenty accurate. They are as good as anything made.

I came here to say Dan Wesson. All's well and fine with the CZ75, but for $600-700 new (if you can't find a deal), being hard to track down specific flavors, the expensive gunsmithing, and the shitty trigger...I'll just double up and buy a Dan Wesson since it won't need anything done. Actually, that's exactly what I did and I don't regret it, at all.

Its interesting, while we have this discussion there are some secret paths to a cheap buy-in on existing (and often high cost) models.

For example, I could buy a Sig 226 at $650.

    or........

I could buy a Sig 226 .22 classic at $350 to $400 (my last one i bought was $303 plus transfer)

Purchase an X-change kit for $299 to $350 and for the price of the factory Centerfire Sig I have a .22 and a 9mm/40/357 etc. Cheaper than going the other way.

Frankly, right now given 40 and 357 slides swap and I can just change barrels I have less than $1300 in my sig platform that includes two .22 sig classics, a .357 x-change kit, .40 barrel, 9mm x-change kit.

While the "classics" are reputed to be a little looser than Sig's standard line-up these guns will put all bullets in a 4" circle at 25 yards and a win win across the board on a $ basis.
