Concur. Barring actual emergency circumstances, this is a bad, bad idea.

Why is the exercising of one's rights a bad idea. You wouldn't tell anyone who is planning on speaking in the public square that they shouldn't do so.

A right is a right and there should be no difference in how they are treated by the public or the police. When the firearms are pushed into the closet rather than being carried in public you make their public appearances an oddity that is feared.

I couldn't but notice that a couple of newer members have voiced concerns about standing up for our rights.

While I have no knowledge of either of them, but I have to wonder if this is a result of the liberal education that is prevelent in our schools today.

To the OP, I thank you for giving us the benefit of your experience. I come from a age where we where taught about how everyday citizens stood up for their rights knowing it could well lead to their death. I also experienced the loathing of the left wingers when I came home from Vietnam.

I think it is time to get off our knees and stand up again. :party29:

Seems like you are on a reasonable, responsible approach to voice and demonstrate your concerns over the steep erosion (if not outright gutting) of our Constitutional Rights. I applaud your initiative in talking and meeting with the police department. Keep up the good work.

google is your friend, I am not.
I have mixed feelings about this. While I am sure most people , the vast majority, will be intelligent and well spoken, the media will highlight the dickish ones, and there will be at least one dickish person LGOC.

Keep in mind, Moms Against Guns and anti-gunners will resort to lying and exaggeration to get a media story. The first story out there will be the ones people remember.

If the goal is to protest, in this state, I think it will backfire. If the goal is outreach, people need to stick to a tight message, like "we are not advocating violence, we are advocating not being a victim or letting gang members and drug dealers dictate our life or rights."

Preaching to the converted and protesting won't get very far in this state.

Yes, cameras are essential. I don't really know why this is "private." While 99% of police officers may understand the law, and the vast majority may be supportive, in any group of 100 people there are a few dicks (on both sides) who don't understand the law, or dont care. See here: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/20...5_1_baltimore-county-arrest-incident-officers

And, again, if you get a group of 100 people together, 99 of them might be articulate and intelligent, the media will highlight the one. And, Moms will Demand lies.

Have a lawyer on speed dial.

This is a high-risk operation in this state.

As other have said above, keep a lawyer on hand if you decide to go through with this.

Also if you record yourself the entire time you are out there doing LGOC and an accusation was made, you have evidence to prove/disprove anything. What might be a good idea is to ask AACSO to assign a deputy to be near you during the times you are engaging in LGOC. That would minimize the MWG calls and the deputy would also be able to deal with all complaints right there on the spot.

If this does go off without a hitch, then it will pave the way for more LGOC in MD, and then the GA would have to decide if they want LGOC or if they want to give us CC. They might see how many MWG calls there are and decide to do away with G&S and make MD go Shall Issue instead of allowing LGOC.

Considering that he will have to perform this solo by law, the chance of an unexpected "dick" badly representing us is slim.

Good job getting a face to face with the local LEO's. It will pay off when the calls come in. By working with them, they become an advocate by simply assuring concerned citizens that LGOC is OK.

    Good luck.

That's good to see that someone with a higher rank had an open mind and was open to having a reasonable meeting with you. Unfortunately, there will always be a few clowns that will try to get a negative reaction out of you to push a gun control agenda. If you decide to carry this out I wish you the best of luck on your mission.

What about having an additional person as a "sign bearer"? Maybe with a sandwich sign indicating this is a legal activity, not to be alarmed, and why it is occurring. Warning the soccer moms et al might reduce their "the sky is falling" rhetoric.

That is actually not a bad idea, and what would be a better idea is possibly getting some MOCO & AACO off duty officers that are sympethetic to the cause to actually be there as a show that you are well within the law and they are monitoring the situation.

Plus i'm sure they would like some Chipotle!

Also another idea use bright zip ties to show the action is open and/or make certain that you are in full compliance with only a 10rd mag.

Would getting a news station be worth the time?

Thanks for taking the initiative in a well thought out way mxrider

While on its face it may seem like a bad idea (the two mutants at Chipotle), when done in a respectfull, intelligent manner, I think it can have positive outcomes.

Especially if it's made known the Maryland Attorney General has stated LGOC is legal.

As other have said above, keep a lawyer on hand if you decide to go through with this.

Don't have one unfortunately but feel this is too important to not stand up.

Also if you record yourself the entire time you are out there doing LGOC and an accusation was made, you have evidence to prove/disprove anything.

This is the part that was brought up during our meeting that I didn't want to mention publicly and give others ideas of what could cause me trouble. A false accusation could lead to an arrest and let the courts decide the outcome. The video is essential in a defense where it is he said/she said.

What might be a good idea is to ask AACSO to assign a deputy to be near you during the times you are engaging in LGOC. That would minimize the MWG calls and the deputy would also be able to deal with all complaints right there on the spot.

Hadn't thought of that, but will ask about this possibility. I have a long time friend that works out of this district as well that may be helpful to the cause.

If this does go off without a hitch, then it will pave the way for more LGOC in MD, and then the GA would have to decide if they want LGOC or if they want to give us CC. They might see how many MWG calls there are and decide to do away with G&S and make MD go Shall Issue instead of allowing LGOC.

This is my ultimate goal in the whole idea.

My 30rnd mag is in full compliance :)

Have toyed around with the idea of touching base with Emily Miller now that she is with Fox 5. She has done a few recent stories regarding 2a stuff.

I completely understand about you being in full compliance with your 30 rd mag... but there is no reason to be like billy crystal in city slickers and slap the bull....

we need to keep the bull out of annapolis and educate people IMO.

    IMO...

Every firearm should be completely unloaded, action open.

Magazines/shells could be carried on belts, etc., but never inserted into a firearm during the event.

And this is exactly how I would do this.

p.s. I tried to call you a bit ago.

They brought out one aspect of something that I hadn't thought of which I don't want to reveal in an open forum, but will be more than happy to share it privately. It reinforced the idea that you would want to have yourself on video for the entire time.

Why on earth would you not share this with the rest of us?
