This is probably like Ford vs Chevy, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of the AR15 vs AR10 other than caliber?

I was considering AR15 but some say bigger is better. I know the 15s have more parts available.

Weight, higher cost per round, proprietary operating systems, and magazine compatibility are all factors with an AR10 rifle. If this will be your first AR type rifle I suggest an AR15. There are many great HBAR'S out there like Colt, Windam Weaponry, LWRC, etc....

Whew, you are all over the place . . . stop torturing yourself. Get yourself a reasonably priced Colt HBAR in .223/5.56 (good resale value, and no questions regarding being ban exempt) and gain some experience before you start getting into AR10's. You can always move up later. The 15 is more readily available, usually less expensive, and less expensive to shoot. If you are interested in accuracy, and learning the mechanisms, versus just blasting away, don't rule out a 20" match/target barrel. You can always go carbine later. Just MHO.

Go to the Fredrick Gun show tomorrow, bring approximately $1,150.00 in cash, find the table that says "Shooters Discount" above it, Say Hi to Lou45 (and maybe Mopar if he is there), and tell Lou you want one of these:

You will be getting a good deal on one of the best ARs out there in the price range.

ford v chevy is not the right analogy. more like car v truck, they are two different operating systems. ar15 generally 2.23/5.56 and also 6.8 and 300 blackout. ar10 is .308 also 6.5 creedmore and the like.

start off with the ar-15, there is a lot more compatibility, interchangeability, everything is pretty much lower cost, etc.

Yes, I'll pick up the Colt HBAR tomorrow. I am always learning. Nothing wrong with homework. Only way I would torture myself was to be on here and not make a purchase at all. Thats not gonna happen.

Most everyone leaves Lou's table at the shows smiling. If I recall correctly, he doesn't normally allow pick ups of regulated items at the shows, so the fact the HBAR is cash and carry is in a weird way a bonus for you. Safe shooting.

Just an update... Saturday I picked up my 6721 from Lou and put a few hundred rounds through it today. I loved it. Now I need to update with better sights / scope. Thanks Lou, it was a pleasure dealing with you.

So now that I have my Ar15, I am seriously looking for something in the .308 cal. and as good quality as the Colt. I would like to be able to punch a bigger hole at times.

I think it is some sort of sickness. I had my first AR for maybe a whole 3 days before I found myself searching the web for a 308. I wonder if there is a cure?
