This is supposed to be the newest cat's meow of muzzleloader powder... we'll see. For $32.99 a pound it better be some badass good stuff. I'll be sighting in a checking a few of my Muzzleloaders for the upcoming season, so, I'll report back with my experience when that time comes.

Anyone else here use this stuff ?

It's new to me too. I had some dude down around Budds Creek tell me about it... The only reason I got some was because it was there and I have met this dude in person before and he seemed like the type of guy who wouldn't lie to me when he said it might be pretty good stuff. I'm just taking a shot in the dark on his theory. I sure hope he appreciates me spending $40.00 to test something he has been waiting for me to get before him...

Certainly will do that for you. I might even have a chance tomorrow morning to try it out before I leave the farm. I'm planning one last Crow hunt for tomorrow so I can leave the farm quiet until Muzzleloader season. I've been wanting to pass a few more rounds with the Rossi .50 anyway and a new powder might be a good time to test things.

One thing I notice right away about the BLACK-MZ powder is how much coarser it is than other powders. I definitely won't be shooting this in my .32 rifle since the .32 misfires with Pyrodex RS and I have to use Pyrodex P with that. This is certainly a 209 powder. I don't think I would trust it with a #11 cap like I do the Pyrodex RS.

Well put a couple shots out with it. If you don't like it, I will come and get it so I can putz around with it.

I am taking some time this morning at the farm to run a few shots of it through my Rossi Muzzleloader. I will report back later this morning / afternoon with my results.

So how did the new powder work out for you?

I never got the time to try it out yet. It got hot down in the gravel pit about 10:30 and I was too warm to care about it yesterday. I shot some of my new cast bullets for the gun and solved that issue. My new .452 unsized casts are just what that gun needed and it is now ready for muzzleloader season.

I'll try that new powder first chance I get. I may have to run over to Myrtle Grove and pay them $5.00 to shoot it out. I am not doing anymore shooting at the farm until the Muzzleloader season is over.

I don't see where it looks or smells any different than all of the other powders I have ever used or tried, so, maybe the magical properties are in its composition. At this point all I see is another powder company cashing in on the increasing popularity of muzzleloader rifles.

I bought a can of it this week and took it for a test drive! hands down shits all over 777 and less smoke, smell, ease of cleaning than pyrodex. I was using MZ 209's and tried some in my hammer lock with cci 11's, worked great. 777 went in the trash! Still doesnt hold a candle to blackhorn 209 though. If you have an enclosed breech plug get the BH209.

Well if it's better than using Pyrodex then I'm all for it. I agree with the 777 too that stuff is garbage. I poured about a half a bottle swearing to never use that again. I'll give this new can a try that I've had for weeks now soon. I'll be going to shoot some before the Firearms season comes in, so, a couple weeks and I'll give this Black MZ a go.

I have heard of decent reports of its use and clean burning aspects along with clean up on the cast boolits forum, but only a few. More pure BP shooters there. It supposedly has a orange oil added to the base to aid in the cleaning, though still not BH209. I wouldn't mind trying it also so I will be looking in on your reports. Also, how is its volume rate per shots per LB of powder I do not know, such as how many 100 gr volume shots there are in a LB. Does it look like it has good volume loading or is there a chart for conversion from volume to actual grains of use? There is something that I can't rightly recall that was mentioned about the actual base that it did need responsive cleaning of that day of shooting because possible bore deterioration ????. But just like any other powder IMO though I haven't used BH209.

10 grains BV=8.8 by weight. I dont have a chrono anymore so i cant do any comparisons like i want to. it is citric based so all the corrosive elements are not gone but is a hell of alot cleaner burning than 777, no crud ring at the bottom.

when you crack open a bottle of BH209, is smells just like smokeless. 1/8 the smoke of 777 and aliant and is damn near shooting smokeless compared to pyrodex.

:lol2: funny you should mention that 777 black crud ring. I once thought that ring was from the powder melting my sabots. Then I finally realized that the powder was like wet mud when you set fire to it.

Does anyone know if Blackhorn 209 is good to go for side locks, or is it best for inlines only?
