Applied on Wednesday morning and was approved on Thursday. Surprisingly quick. Now i just have to wait to hear that I'm "not disapproved" so I can pick up that gun I bought back in July!

What?!!! You mean having a HQL doesn't guarantee immediate delivery of firearms that have been held three or more months beyond what the LAW requires? I thought the Constitution protected against seizure of property without due process of the law. Did I miss the revocation of the 4th and 14th Amendments?

There is no defense for licensing an enumerated constitutional right,...

That horse left the barn in 1934. (and again in 1968, and again in 1986)

Unfortunately, it's called precedent and it is a strong defense.

Can just one person explain why this makes them so happy?

Its simply because the idiots in Annapolis tried to suppress the rights of myself and the others on this forum by creating artificial roadblocks to legal handgun ownership, and we are happy because we have pushed beyond those roadblocks and our collectively saying "Screw you Martin, we are going to exercise our right to handgun ownership regardless of the artificial barriers you enacted to deprive us of our constitutional rights."

I think we will all be happier the day these laws are overturned. For now though, I personally am very happy that I gotten past this stupid roadblock. If I walk into On Target, Bass Pro, White Marsh Arms or a gun show sometime in the near future and see a handgun I want to purchase, I now know that I can buy it if I so choose. Yes, I had that same right before October 1st without a HQL, but if I were to not get a HQL out of protest, then I might never be able to buy another handgun in Maryland, and then the idiots in Annapolis would have won as they would have discouraged me from exercising my right to keep and bear arms. I will not be discouraged.

Totally agree. Nobody wants to jump through these stupid hoops to exercise our Constitutional rights. I damn sure don't. Until this is all hopefully overturned, it is what it is if you want to be able to buy handguns in MD.

If you choose to protest by not getting the HQL, that's your choice. I respect that. However, the same respect should be shown to those who choose to. It's alarming to see so many in this thread are borderline calling other people traitors or detrimental to the 2A cause in MD because they choose to continue to have the ability to buy the guns they want.

It wasn't all that long ago, "THE PLAN" was to flood the system for HQLs initially to overwhelm the system in order "to help our court case". Guess that didn't happen. Now it's "don't apply for the HQL" and that's going to "help our court case". Really!?!? Ease up.

Ya, that's part of the problem with a bunch of people who believe in individual rights, huh? Much easier to herd sheep than cats. ;)

Sorry, it's not anyone here's fault the folks down in Annapolis have us over a barrel...

Godwin's law is about comments comparing someone/something to Hitler and Nazis. The person mentioned the yellow badges worn by those of the Jewish Faith which predates WWII and Hitler by many many years(but which resurfaced under Hitler).

Was a good point made but a bit anti-semitic in nature if one isn't of the Jewish Faith.

I didn't see it as anti-semitic at all (but, then again, I'm not Jewish). I saw it as a reference to an infamous and atrocious period of history in which the Star of David is a symbol that was used to register a group of people for easy identification and persecution. Perhaps used out of context and a little insensitive, I do not believe the reference was intended to diminish what happened by comparing it to the handgun buyer registration.

I just can't get all excited that I need a license to exercise my 2nd Amendment rights. I'll get one because I have to, but I don't have to like it.

That pretty much sums up my feelings and several posts here which in some cases have been taken out of context. If I decide to get another handgun, I will obviously get one. I made the decision to spend way more than planned in order to buy quite a few handguns in advance of the HQL requirement. Two of which I had in my "someday" list and I was lucky enough to find them. Right now there are no handguns out there that I want.

As far as "flooding the system", it seems they had a plan for that and are pushing them through at lightning speed. I did my part of adding to the logjam by purchasing several handguns in the last coupl eof months as well as applying for DC status.

So what's next ? It's more than just fingerprints, picture ID, registration and shooting one round.

RQL for rifles is next. (Maybe shotguns will be included)

Then the grandfather clause will be done away with. To own a rifle or pistol you need to have the license. You would then be required to register everything you have. No big deal - you are 'qualified' now. Maryland will be safer.

Then, you can't go to range without a HQL or RQL. MSP will periodically check ranges and request to see your license and use the online database to match you to whatever rifle or pistol you are using. Wouldn't want no illegal guns out there.

Then they will get technical. RFID chip in the license, you will have to walk thru a RFID screen every time you go to the range. Then MSP can see how many times you actually go to the range and shoot. Maybe even track where you go (if you carry the license). Strange that you go to some secret hide away in the woods with about 20 of your fellow HQL/RQL licensees about once a month.

The snowball is building and rolling downhill and we are at the bottom.

Remember - the earth is flat, taxes are just temporary and gun registration reduces crime and saves lives.

Yeah, I'm wearing a tinfoil hat. :tinfoil: Yeah call me crazy.

    It can't happen to us.
