I would like to get a semi-auto before the HQL kicks in.

I want something small, something I can carry, but no 22's or anything.

The smaller the pistol, the lighter the pistol and the worse grip you're going to have. Recoil is going to be worse and not absorbed well.

    Other smaller gun...

Smaller gun you get.. less ammo you can carry..

If you are a good shot at high stress..great... not so much if your not.

LCP is a hell of a .380. It's extremely accurate and easy to shoot. They've updated it a bit for 2013 with better/taller sights.

Flat is usually preferred with carry guns. I've looked at and like the feel of the XDm's in 45 and 9mm. Others that come to mind are Kahr, Kel-tec PF9, Ruger LCP .380 and their LC9 in 9mm. You do have to get used to the recoil in a small gun and it won't happen all in one range trip, since a box of 50 might be all your hand can tolerate in one visit.

It is possible to carry a larger gun that's flat like a the 1911. You have to figure what you are willing to put up with in, size, weight, your tolerance for recoil, how you'll carry it, what holster and what caliber. There maybe other things you want to consider, like what you'll do when you can't carry, so you'll have some sort of gun safe in your car, or not. There are many things like that that go into carrying.

I'm sure you have some friends in MSI that would take a trip to the range with you and their carry guns. At this time your friend Bikebreath has a Polish P-64 that kicks like a mule and is single stack and flat. Then I have just gotten a CZ-82 that I haven't shot it yet and people say it kicks hard, but at 6oz. heavier than the P-64 with much more purchase on the grip it can't be as bad. Modern day "plastic" guns will weigh even less.

    Hope that helps.

The P-64 is a snappy little bastard but the CZ-82's are tame and quite comfortable in my experience. Maybe the folks who thought it "kicked hard" were expecting the 9x18 to be a much weaker round or the grip just didn't work with their hands?

That and they never had time on a P-64 :shocked4: The CZ-82 might be the best feeling pistol I've ever held. I expect to be shooting it this weekend. :fingerscrossed:
