I bought a USSG/SAR tactical shotgun at Big Dogs on Saturday. They had a good price on it and it was the last one. Even though I went in looking for a MKA-1919, the Turkish shotgun looked pretty sweet and needed a new home.

As always, they were extremely friendly and very easy to deal with.

    I hear ya.
I'm in the market for an M1A Scout/Squad.

One vendor is actively looking for one, for me.

I contacted BD yesterday, to see what models they had available (when he said that he had "four on the wall").
I got a response, telling me what they had.

I asked the price on one of them. No response.

    Yes, I want another M1A.

No, I'm not going to drive 50 or 60 miles ONE WAY (with the price of gas, plus tolls) just to get a price.
(FWIW, I've had vendors farther away, give me a firm price on other/different firearm, and gotten my business, because they were honest about their pricing.)

Don't expect them to be cheap. They are reasonable price in this time. They have to jack the price little to keep them available for you or someone else that would pay for it. If they were cheaper and they would have been sold out. Captialism at the work! I love captialist.

This is BS! they don't care who buys it as long as they pass the background check and have money. They are jacking up the price because they have it and that want to get the most money they can from the customers. Most of the guns are over the M.S.R.P.
It is true they have some things no one else has in the area and I don't mind paying a little more for that and the great customer service they have been known to give, but that doesn't mean the prices are reasonable.
as most have stated that the no price over the phone or internet is bad for there business. a lot of people will be willing to drive a ways and pay a little higher price but not an unreasonable price and it isn't right to expect people to drive a long distance and pay the bridge toll just to get a price or find out they are very high. They have no real competition around them so they have nothing to be scared of by giving out the price over the phone or email unless they know they are asking too much and that the customer will not come in for that price.

    Two thoughts, here.
    1. Jack up the price to keep them available??? Bovine Scatology. When a price is raised (above everyone else) it shows lack of business 'sense'.
I don't mind anyone making a profit. That's why people go into business.
Don't try to pay your mortgage payment from EVERY customer.

    2. If they were cheaper, they could have sold them (and bought more!) and not had their initial investment being tied up in inventory. See item number 1, regarding business sense.

Don't get me wrong.......... I'll give anyone a chance to make a living.
However, don't try to shove it where the sun don't shine!!!!

Fact: Several years ago, I was in the market for a Beretta Silver Pigeon (O/U).
I called and visited a LOT of local gunshops. Even shops that I've done a LOT of business with.

I called Green Top (yes, just outside of Richmond!) and he quoted a price that was several hundred $$$ less than EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

I asked him how many he had in stock.
The salesmand said, "Several." Come and take your pick!!

    Road Trip!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind driving to a gunshop, if they have the merchandise and the price that I'm willing to pay.

Heck!!!! I recently drove to Christiansburg, Virginia, and bought a rifle!!!:D

Now...... if someone isn't willing to quote even a 'ballpark' price....... they don't want my business.

Here is a question. Big dog is on here and they do support this form. Why have they not been on here defending the policy and explain to us why they have higher prices then most every place.

I've been there a few times. Some things are high, some things are low. I paid a third of what I've seen troy battle mags going for in PA. It's still a fun place to look around in.

I'm going back to get myself an rpg crate one of these days.

No one is saying that you can't get a deal from time to time, You can and that the place is not fun to go to, Most of us don't care for the store policy to not give out prices and that most (not all but most) of the prices are way higher then should be even in this time.
I my self have gotten a few good deals and have always been treated great when I am in the store. Like most of us I am in SoMD and it is a drive and with the new tolls it is expensive to go there to must get a price. Now IF I called and they had what I wanted and gave a fair price for it I would ask them to hold it for me and go right there to buy it Like most people would, But If they have it and it is considerable higher then any other place and then add the gas and toll then if it is a long gun add the $10 fee for the paperwork ($5 for VA residents) it makes it not worth going to them and most people would just buy over the internet and have it shipped to a local FFL for the same or little less money.

Because there is no point in me feeding the trolls. It's like playing chess with a pigeon, at the end of the day no one wins, and all you end up with is *hit all over the board. But, given that I'm being asked to directly respond, I'll address some of the comments being made.

A lot of the negative comments said in this thread are incorrect.

    - We've never sold .22lr for $100 a brick. The most we have ever sold it for is $.12 per round, which is $60 for a brick.

    - We've never sold 1000 primers for $100. At the height of the panic, we had 1500 count primers for $90 when no one else had them. We paid handsomely for those primers but we at least had them when no one else had them. The same can be said for a lot of the ammunition that we have had in the past 6 months when no one else had it.

    - Our AR 30 round magazines have always started at around $12 and gone up. Our PMAGs are $11.99 for Gen 2 and $13.50 for Gen 3. Magpul hasn't shipped to a smaller dealer since January and we were having to purchase our mags through tertiary dealers prior to Magpul sending us a shipment this month.

    - Every gun in our shop is at MSRP or lower. Most are usually between $30-50 cheaper than MSRP, as is everything else in our store. The only thing higher than MSRP are the Colt 1911s and that's because they MSRP margins are around 7% and we can't stay in business with that kind of margin.

At the end of the day our prices are retail. Of course you can find it on the internet cheaper. You can find everything on the internet cheaper. If all you care about is cost, then buy it on the internet. I'm not sure why you are wasting your time trashing our store over the $5 you saved by buying something from Midway or Amazon.

Finally, we do not give out our prices over the phone. It's not because we are afraid of our prices, it has more to do with the fact that some of the same trolls here and elsewhere will ask for a price on something and mix it up with a similar model and then flame/claim that we are $400 over MSRP on it or that they can get it for $5 cheaper from Bud's gunshop or gunbroker. I apologize to those of you who are not local and want to get a price before making the drive but we are not going to change our policy. We will in most cases give you a range so you have a general idea on most items.

At the end of the day, I really hope that the comments of a few mus-informed and bitter individuals don't ruin a potentially positive experience for those who have not had a chance to visit our store.

I do want to thank all of you who have come to our store, and had a positive experience and have shared that experience with others. We look forward to continuing to be able to provide the products and service to you and the others who frequent our store.

Just so there's no confusion, here.....
    1. I am no troll, and don't appreciate being called that.
    2. I put in boldface the most important part of this, to give a rebuttal.
I PM'd you, in an effort to find out what M1A(s) you had in stock.
Thank you for letting me know.
As soon as I got that PM, I asked for the price of the black synthetic M1A.
I have gotten no response. Period. No 'ballpark' price...... no nothing.

I have taken that to mean that you don't want my business. That's fair enough.

You don't want my business....... you won't get it.

    And yes..... I have cash.

As for the comment that I made about $100/1,000 primers, that is what I read on this forum, and no-one denied it, until now.
If that information is not true and correct - I stand corrected and I will edit/remove that comment from my previous post.

Thank you for clarifying your pricing policy. First of all, only my wife is allowed to call me a troll. Secondly, if I lived next door to your store, I would probably shop exclusively at BD's. However, if I am going to drive 120 miles round trip, I will do it for stores where I know the price before I get there. Best of luck in your business and have a nice life.:outta her

BigDogs is awesome. I love making the trip down there. The customer service is much better than anything in Southern Maryland and they have a much bigger selection of guns, ammo and magazines than anywhere local. I make it a point to stop by big dogs whenever Im over the bridge.

I have visited Big Dogs a couple of times and bought cases of ammo at good prices. Have told several friends and relatives about them. Cool store with friendly, knowledgable staff. Makes me wish I lived on the nonprogressive noncommunist side of the Potomac. Would you consider giving prices to mds members who pm you?

I called and got them to give me a price. They are still a little high for me. I can get it shipped here and pay all the fees cheaper. At least so far. But you gotta look around.

And when the day is done I have a 1 1/2 hr ride home with a grin on my face !!! something to look forward to ! Thanks Charles and your staff for the wonderful service and store you provide !

so I'm a troll because I ask you for the price on a couple AK's you have in stock? I'm a troll because even after I ask you you for a ballpark price before I drive 80 miles from NOVA you can't even give me an idea before I spend 40 bucks on gas and 3 to 12 bucks on tolls(depending on which way I go) before I leave ? see how ridiculous this is?

look at it from the consumer's point of view before you resort to insults. generally speaking shops that don't give prices are over priced. a few members here seem to confirm this.

    Big Dog Outfitters,
I am going to refute you on this
First off I am not a troll I am a customer with money to spend but have to watch how I spend it.

I mentioned the price of the 22 long rifle. The ammo I was talking about was a brick of the tactical 22 long rifle, When I asked the price and willing to buy I was told it was $100,

I was just in there a few weeks ago and you had a brick of 223 primers (not small rifle) and i asked ready to buy them I was quoted $10 a pack, I then asked how much for the brick and was told to X that by 10. I was just in there last week and you had a brick of the 223 primers I asked the girl behind the counter the price and she said $100. I walked away.

so you are not telling everyone the truth here or I was misquoted the prices by your people. because if the price was reasonable I would have bought the ammo and primers that moment.
I do know what I was told and I do know the prices that where given to me!

as I said I don't mind paying a bit more for buying local and your great customer service but I am not going to pay prices that are unreasonably high!

As you stated it is your store and you can make your own policies, however a lot of people are telling you that you are loosing business because of them, a smart business would listen to the customers and change policy so they can bring in more money

"nally, we do not give out our prices over the phone. It's not because we are afraid of our prices, it has more to do with the fact that some of the same trolls here and elsewhere will ask for a price on something and mix it up with a similar model and then flame/claim that we are $400 over MSRP on it or that they can get it for $5 cheaper from Bud's gunshop or gunbroker." So you are saying that we don't know what we are asking for! well sir I know very well what I am talking about and what prices things are going for a lot of us do a lot of research before we buy something as big as a gun.

I just bought a mossberg MVP rifle from you and I paid well over MSPR however you where the only one that had the one I wanted it so I reluctantly bought it.
