The match report is attached. It was a beautiful day on the range today.

Thanks to all the shooters for participating and to the volunteers for supporting the event. And thanks to Beretta for the sponsorship and the Neos pistol that we raffled-off among the match participants.

Our next RF Steel match is scheduled for 19 May at 0900 -- see the Club's calendar here.

A real nice day, and great way to spend it!! For my first steel match I was surprised to make it in the middle of the pack.:) Next time, I hope to have more mags! Thanks Neil & Gary for loaning the rifle mags! And thank you John for loaning the pistol! I had a blast.

    And Congratulations to Bruce!

First time shooting this match and had a great time. A big thanks to all involved. I look forward to next months match. Raffle off some .22 ammo and you'll really sell some tickets! Not used to seeing guys cut 2x4's in half with rimfire.!!

Weather was much better this time around. Had a good time and learned a few things to apply to next months match. This is a great way to learn and get into the sport. Hopefully next time I can talk the GF into coming to at least check it out.

Yep -- that was my bad. Like LX1X said, we'll do better next time.

But I have to admit that it was kinda cool yelling "Timber!" as the plate-stands fell-over.

Would it be useful if we held a RF Steel Practice Day" some weeknight before the next match?

This would likely be a weekday afternoon when we would set-up a stage in Pit #2 and simply introduce new shooters to the Course-of-Fire?

ugh.. why you must persist on having practice day during work week. i know you dont like me.. but.. :lol2:

that is good idea though. even though some new shooters adapted quickly this weekend. but then again we didnt have as much shooter as last month, so it was bearable.:thumbsup:

Some have asked what this sort of match RF Steel is. Therefore, I have attached the rules and a few example stage-designs.

Almost all of the matches at SLSC are open to the public. The RF
Steel matches are certainly among those that are open. The Club's calendar of events is here.

I'll give you a thumbnail sketch right now:
The matches are shot with both Rifles AND Pistols. In a typical match, we have three stages that are each fired (5 times each, with the worst score being dropped) with a pistol. Then the same stages (or slight variations thereof) are fired with a rifle -- although with the shoot-boxes usually being moved back somewhat. The score is your time, minus any penalties.
22LR is the prescribed caliber (no 22-magnums or .17HMRs). At Sanner's Lake we do currently deviate from the national rules by allowing 22shorts and 22Longs to be used -- this is just because of the current rimfire ammo famine.
Pretty-much any firearms that shoot 22LR are welcomed (no Class 3, of course). We have different firearms classes as well as different shooter-classes so as to level the playing-field.

Any rifle only matches? Unfortunately I'm only 18 and live in this dumb state, but have been wanting to participate in some shooting matches.

I'd love to shoot your match sometime now that you have started it. But I don't think I can find the time to do it before this year's Ruger Rimfire World Championship in Tulsa, OK. Plus I am shooting the Alabama Ruger Rimfire Challenge in June as a tuneup this year. I will have to look at doing it sometime in August or so.
