I hate to be the fly in the ointment but I'll say it again: We all know this is a distress flag, in this forum. But the largest percentage of people won't. And of those, the second largest subset is just going to think that we're "ignert" for flying the flag upside down. This is an inside joke that very few will get.

I'd love to have such a bumper sticker/mug/whatever because the rattlesnake superimposed over the flag is sufficient to send the right message - in my opinion. Alas there's no way to educate someone following you in a car. They're just going to pigeon-hole us as "ignert rednecks" and in their smug sanctimonious fashion feel reinforced in their position.

I like where you're going, I just think it's a bit too clever. But obviously I'm outvoted, so now I've said my last piece.

    Did I miss something?

I'm hoping he adds more items and includes the regular flag. I'd be in for decals and a flag version of that! That would be a flag that would see some use at my place.

For anyone that is interested I have now added your choice of either black or white mugs as well as your choice of 12oz or 15oz. At some point tonight I will add the normal Maryland Gadsden flag that is not in distress for mugs and travel mugs. If I have enough people that want the normal flag in decals and magnets then I can add that in the near future.

    FLAGS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!!!

    You will have your choice between 2' x 3', 3' x 5', and 5' x 8'.

    You can also choose between:
    The Maryland Gadsden Flag
    The Maryland Gadsden Distress Flag
    The Maryland Gadsden Crossland Flag

These flags are a high quality nylon flag and one sided. This means that the text will be backwards on one side. I have the option of getting a two sided flag so the text reads correct on both sides but have been informed that they will not fly well. If for some reason you really want the two sided flag just let me know and I'll special order it for you.

Hope everyone is happy with the products I'm putting together and I welcome all suggestions. Can't wait to see these around the state!

I'll have to pass on the flags at this time. $110.00 (3x5) bucks is WAY out of my price range. I'm not sure what I was thinking the price would be, as it custom work, but WOW that was a surprise..

Yeah, I'm in the exact same boat. I was super excited to order me one of the Crossland versions! $110 for a 3x5 was way more than I was anticipating. I expected the 3X5 to be around $80 but I have nothing to base that off of. I may have to get out the needle and thread so I can Betsy Ross myself one of these things. ;-)

Trust me, I was hoping to find a cheaper supplier as well. But I contacted 15 different companies online and found two things. I could sell a Polyester 3' x 5' flag for $75 but the polyester won't hold up in the elements as well as a nylon flag and are estimated to only last about 8 months outside.

If I have people that want to hang this up inside then I can add it to the store. Otherwise, your better off spending the extra $35 to have a flag that will easily last years outside.

If you are interested in an indoor only flag, 3' x 5' for $75 then please let me know. This will also include a $10 donation to Maryland Shall Issue.

To expand, if you are interested in the flags that can only be used indoors and of smaller sizes let me know, I can probably find some smaller indoor ones for around $30-$40.

You're good, like I said the price in my head was really unfounded. As far as house flags, I'm of the mind that if you won't fly it for all to see then don't bother flying it at all. When I have some spare cash I'll be ordering the Crosslands for outdoor use. It not only looks good but speaks in imagery and history the sentiments I try to convey daily. Good on you for putting this together!

I'll have to keep the indoor flags in mind as I slowly decorate the "man cave"/reloading area/fortress of solitude. Thanks for putting all of this together, as soon as I have some scratch I'll be ordering some stuff.

    Decal Giveaway

After speaking to someone who plans on re-selling the decals for me, I realized that I need to put information on the back of the decal so that potential customers can read about the history behind the Gadsden Flag as well as the significance of a flag in distress and the crossland flag.

Since this whole project has been a group collaboration, whoever can supply me with the best best description for each flag will get 2 free decals in the mail of the description they win for.

Simply respond to this topic with your description of:

The Maryland Gadsden Distress Flag &
    The Maryland Gadsden Crossland Flag

and you can win some free decals.

I will be adding this text to the back of every decal

The Maryland Gadsden Distress Flag TM

Gadsden Flag: Originally used in the Revolutionary War by General Gadsden's platoon, the flag is rooted in our nation's historic battle for independence. Since the Revolution, the flag has become a symbol of American patriotism, a symbol of disagreement with government and a symbol of support for civil liberties. The Gadsden flag is saying that they are passive and peaceful people, but if their rights are tread on then they are prepared to strike back with force. This does not necessarily mean violence, but can be seen as a metaphor for organizing to defend those rights.

Maryland Distress Flag: The Maryland flag is inverted, a universal sign of distress. It is not meant to be, nor is officially recognized as any type of disrespect when displayed for the right reasons. A flag is only shown in distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

Every decal includes a $.50 donation to Maryland Shall Issue

Maryland Crossland Flag: The Crossland flag gained popularity during the Civil War, during which Maryland remained with the Union despite many citizens' support for the Confederacy. Those Marylanders who supported the Confederacy adopted the red and white Crossland banner while the black and gold Calvert banner was used by Maryland Union regiments.

I actually had this idea back in December and presented it to my girlfriend and brother in law who are both skilled in Photoshop, but they never got around to putting it together for me. :)

I have to agree with Aray on the normal/distress flag... First of all, most people don't even know which way is really up. Second, the people that do will likely take us for 'idiot gun nuts/tea partiers' who don't know anything.

If you decide not to offer the standard flag, I'll probably order some distress ones anyway because I love the idea.. but I'd prefer the regular one.

Maybe I can get a custom die-cut vinyl decal made that says 'it's upside down for a reason, morons!' :D

I REALLY like the idea of the cartoon crab (similar to the one posted on pg8). I'm not sure if I like the MD flag or the standard yellow better, but the crab needs to be made!!

In post #60 you said the decals would be 4 for $10, but when I add 4 to my cart it doesn't change the total. No big deal, just wanted to make you aware of it if it was a mistake. I'll go ahead and pay the amount it says and if there is any extra please donate it to MSI.
