Do you live in the county or in an incorporated area?

Who in the hell would report you for shooting a BB gun?

Who would come knocking on your door if they did? The Sheriff's office? Call the Sheriff's office....

I looked around, and couldnt find much. One MSP told me since a pellet gun is only spring powered its not a firearm and there are 0 restrictions on it (I dont believe him). Only thing I do know is nuisance or not, rabbits have a hunting season, and can only be killed within the season with a legal hunting permit.

I believe Westminster is the only municipality that has a prohibition against discharging firearms inside city limits.

Why don't you just trap it and take it out in the country and let it go? Rabbits have become scarce in huntable areas over the last couple decades.

For the rabbit's sake, I hope you use a high-velocity .22 caliber pellet rifle, and not just a .177 caliber gun.

FWIW, .22 shorts from a rifle are just as quiet as a .22 air rifle, if you can legally shoot on your own property but are concerned about noise bothering a neighbor.

    thanks all who responded
I do not live in an incorporated part of the county, and the gun is a nitro piston 22cal, it is pretty loud for an air gun
I had thought I heard once that I needed signed permission if neighbors closer than 450 feet but can no longer find that info. Some of my neighbors are closer than that. Any other info appreciated

As the weather gets a bit warmer, set up a hide in your yard and camp out like a sniper, just as the sun starts to go down, then take out targets of opportunity. :D

I've contemplated doing this at my place with nuicance bunnies. It's not likely your neighbors would notice the "blap!" of a pellet gun from inside their house, and even if they did and looked out the window, what would they see? You'll be tucked up under your hide. :)

How is a rabbit a nuisance? Eating your garden? , or viciously attacking people

My brother lived in the city by the hospital. He fired an airsoft outside for years. He stepped it up to a .177 and the city police told him he couldn't and to expect a court date or something. But so far, its been an empty threat as he has received nothing.

Yea, the good old days, used to walk around the woods with a buddy and that Sheridan 5mm, you could drop most any small critter with a headshot under 50 yards. Airguns generally are not firearms, but also are not covered by state preemption as a result. More than likely you have nothing to fear from the law, shooting an airgun in your backyard with a safe backstop, especially in Carroll county. Shooting rabbits though could run afoul of hunting laws, but even then you will have to weigh the cost of a license vs the near impossibility of getting caught thumping one or two. Of course up here is a different world, bats, cats, raccoons, chupacabras, it doesn't matter, someone in town is gonna shoot it, probably with a 12ga, and they are probably going to grill it, York regional PD isn't going to drive 20 minutes to get here over it either.
