question...what's the best watch that does stuff for not alot(sub $300). I'm form<function. It would be neat to have a watch with a useable compass, altimeter, thermometer and so on. Any good watches with these gizmos built in that aren't huge and don't cost a ton?

    this looks nifty

this doesn't look nifty but does a lot of stuff.

    this protrek looks the niftiest...

Suuntos are too fragile, I've been told. They can't take a beating as well as a Casio and their Water Resistance doesn't come close.

A few of the G-Shocks have some of these features - I think that's the Mudman line.

    G9300-1

    Tough Solar
    Digital Compass
    Thermometer
    Moon Graph
    Shock Resistant
    Mud & Dust Resistant

Casio Pathfinder/Protrek. Here's the one I along with my buddy felt had the best features/functions at the best water resistance and price (you can get easily $100 off retail online on this one).

    PAW1500-1V

But, the coolest one I've seen in person ('cause my buddy wears one) is the Tissot T-Touch. For what it's worth, he sold his PAW1500-1V (mentioned above), and got this Tissot instead. It's a keeper, he says. He interchanges between the metal bracelet and rubber strap.

I can confirm that; breaking one in two months and a replacement in another six or so.

My experience is different (specifically with the Core). I am heavy handed with everything I touch...and I gave it a fair amount of abuse. Lasted as well as my Freestyle in the same environment. GShocks are cheaper...may be better at "water resistant" - but the only reason I would choose one over a Suunto - Price. $60-80 you can get a badass GShock with bells and whistles...but the Suunto is $300.

My experience is also different. I have had mine for 2 years of hard use (I literally leave it on for everything, including when I occasionally swim in pools, lakes, and oceans).

Only weak part of the watch is the band, which I replaced a month ago.

Depending on what watch 2ndCharter had it may also change things. Not all Suuntos are built the same. For instance, the X-lander is a ruggedized version of the Vector, which came about due to troops destroying the Vector overseas and wanting something more durable.

haha not an ******* at all.
Im only 28, but I look at the watch as a throwback.
Not flashy, more simple, before big bezels and loud dials.
    just classic brushed gold..
thanks for the compliments on it

On sale at WalMart. Can't find a name on it. Whenever battery dies , or band breaks , throw away, replace. Averages 1-2yrs each. Used to be about $9 ea , but by now up to around $12 .

Both were in fact Vectors. This was in 1998 or 1999. In the first case, I think the computer just died. It was replaced. I fell in the second case and broke the case completely in half. This wasn't a fall off of Half Dome, this was tripping on the sidewalk. I didn't feel they were responsible in that case but I don't see me ever purchasing another "outdoor" watch.

    It's a nice replica.

Yeah....The guy selling it didn't try to claim it was real and neither do I. I just liked the look of the watch. Wasn't expensive, so I shelled out the dough. He had another one, but I liked this one more. Had a nice Invicta, too, but I didn't have money for that one.

I would wear a fake Rolex over an Invicta any day of the week. I wasn't trying to call you out, I could just tell it's a replica. If you like it...wear it - forget what anyone else says lol. :party29:

I had a real one at one time. Everyone asked if it was a fake. I started buying fakes...now everyone asks if they are real! :D

This one has some good weight to it and a decent movement. I have seen some that are really cheap looking/feeling.
