In 1999 I came face to face with a coyote behind a house I was building off Piney Meetinghouse Road in the North Potomac area of MoCo. We both stared at each other for a long several moments, about 4 yards apart. Then it slowly turned and began walking away. After perhaps two steps it stopped and looked back over its shoulder at me, then reluctantly strolled away into the woods.

Had one howl right outside my tent once when I was camping at Trap Pond State Park in Delaware. It didn't sound anything like the coyotes in the movies. It sounded like some unnatural alien interloper from another planet. Definitely not of this Earth.

They are in Patapsco State Park along the Howard Co/Baltimore Co/AA Co line. Have seen them as far west in the park as Marriottsville . Soon the will join the deaf tamed deer on the AGC!

I am waiting to be attacked by a cougar :)

    LoL aren't we all!

I hunt a farm just south of Edge Water and there are 2 different coyotes running the farm. It backs up to government land and I think they spend most of there time there along with some big bucks we have on camera but never see...

I live in Millersville and while driving down east west blvd early one morning on the way to work a coyote ran across the road in front of me. I was just getting to the farm on the right just before reaching the truck stop on veterans hwy. It was definitely a coyote! They are here.

There are lots of coyotes in MD now. They even messed up my fox trapping last season. No where near as many foxes around and it wasn't due to mange. It was so rediculous that I'd see a new fox print after not seeing any for a week or so, then within a few days, bam, trapped fox, then repeat. One track was odd looking and a week later, I caught a fox missing a toe or something or another, all healed over. Then no more odd looking fox tracks to be seen. There's a coyote pack over there, but none of them came around my sets (they didn't even come over to kill a fox for fun), but I was 1 inch from catching 1 the season before. Some guy shot 1 of the pack members in june while he was groundhog hunting. Another was killed in 2010. I got the paws off it and made track impressions in this modeling putty stuff I use in taxidermy.

Lastly, one of my cats disapeared last dec. I suspect a coyote got him. The cat would wander and loved to tease dogs. Just not smart enough to tease a coyote.

I don't get coyotes in to mount very often. I know a bunch get shot every year, but these people don't bring them to me. I love mounting coyotes despite the incredible amount of time it takes. I have a spiritual connection to them ( yeah, you've seen my crazy posts no doubt LOL). My price starts at 600.00, but it's a labor of pure love to play with dead coyotes.

i've never heard of people seeing coyotes in aa county but i'm not surprised they're here. most people would don't know what a coyote looks like and would probably take it for a stray dog, leading to less reports. i've heard they're starting to become problematic in garrett county from more than one person. never seen one up there either, but i did see a wolf sprint by while hunting two seasons ago. wasn't sure it was until i looked up a number, called dnr, and they confirmed they've been spotted in md before and penn. as well. out of curiosity how do everyone here (personally) pronounce coyote? two syllables or three?? two for me. correct way... ;)

    ky-yote-ee- a common pronunciation

ky-yote- as spoken by "people out west"

koy-yo-tel- orginal aztec ( spelled coyotl)

    sin-ka-lip- Okanogan for "imitator"

I'd post the Navajo one too, but it's a bit more difficult and I don't have my copy of "Dine Bihane" with me

almost splattered a big group of turkeys near piney orchard early one morning going to work near the nature preserve. I've been in the woods around there and seen all sorts of critters (including the guy who lives in the woods and worked/works at the bloom) ;)

Saw this guy in my backyard the other day. Sorry for the crappy cellphone pick. It's a fox right?

Not normal to see a fox milling around in the daytime. If you see one in the day use caution.

I posted this in another thread but I've seen one dead on the side of 70 west bound right around Mt Airy. When i lived in columbia i also saw one walking up the middle of the street in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm, had blood all over its mouth. About two minutes before seeing it i herd a shrieking scream sound coming from the woods. Figured it got a hold of a rabbit or something.

So the lady sees them several times & still let's her cat run loose. Once it's killed, she wants the coyotes trapped and put in someone elses backyard. Nice.

We have coyotes on the Eastern Shore.
