    Wow. Are all judges that rude? I was raised with manners and what those judges do, while people are trying to answer THEIR questions, would never have flown in my house growing up.

    a lot are that short. But it is not rude though. Time is very short and they want answers to their questions. Counsel if he Is smart must be responsive immediately to questions by answering quickly and persuasively. Questions are a good thing -- you really want to know what's on their minds. Oral argument is an art form. Shepards counsel was way too wordy in his answers IMHO. Gura was good. State counsel was fine -- he had a panel hostile to his position. It happens all the time. He did well to keep his spine

    Is it common for a Judge to stay his own ruling pending an appeal? It sounds like he would be saying, "hmmm maybe I was wrong. Let's hold off on this."

    Or allowing Maryland to gear up. Stating you can not do business the way you used to, so you can have a little time to make adjustments to abide by the unconstitutional ruling...
