    Hey guys,

Quick question, I know (as I'm not a collector) that I have to wait 30 days between "purchasing" firearms.

What I'm not sure about is the period between a transfer (receiving), and then purchasing a new firearm.

If I complete (as receiver) a transfer today, can I also buy a new firearm today/tomorrow, or do I have to wait the full 30 days?

    Cheers

As it was explained to me, the 30 days begins on receipt of the regulated firearm.

I've been told that at a couple different FFLs, and I just go by that.

Of course, being a Designated Collector, that's no longer a concern.

The law also allows 2 purchases in a 60 day window. Something about buying matched pairs, getting a special price........
I am not sure as to the how / why, but know it is allowed to buy 2 at once and then wait 60 days for your 3rd.

Sadly I'm not getting a matched pair.

The transfer may occur tonight from another MDS member, and I was also planning on purchasing a new pistol as well.

So the new purchase may have to wait.

If its a good shop they would let you pay for the gun and hold it till you can do the paperwork.

Yeah, I thought about that.. Just buy now and do paperwork in 30 days..

Probably a better plan, if I have the money sat around, I'd probably spend it before 30 days comes rolling around :D

Just get your collector's registration. It's free.

    Fill this out: http://icac.mdsp.org/downloads/Collector_Application_Affidavit.pdf

    Print it.

Take it to your bank to notarize/sign it.

    Mail it.

    Forget about it.

Wonder why you ever created such a silly thread in the first place.

    :D:thumbsup:

Don't you have to continue to purchase X number of firearms, to keep your collector status?

Not sure I'll be buying that may to make it worth signing up for.

I did mine last week. And of course I have nice handguns on order. A Ruger SR22 and a S&W M&P Shield .40. I won't have to wait 30 days to pick up the 2nd one.

And while your at it, get your C&R collectors license as well. Fill it out online. The ATF sends you the application. You pay $30 and send it back to the ATF. Now you can get cool firearms sent directly to your home (excluding regulated products)

So I couldn't see a Notary yesterday as the bank was so busy, but I did complete the application.

Now before I find a Notary today, what did y'all put down for "Describe nature of collecting activities:"

Is this like a "Good and Substantial Reason" ? LOL

Right now I just put: "Personal Collection and Recreational"

Bob Sr. At The Gun Shop in Essex will notarize and fax it in for you for free.
Just call to see if he is there if not local to you, but I see you are located in Baltimore.
(Shop in on my way home from work, so I just stop in.)

Be prepared to wait a bit Trooper, it seems that they're taking a while to turn them around right now.

I've been waiting for a little over 2 months but what the heck, it didn't cost anything other than a stamp.
