Not sure where to post this question. I did a search and didnt find anything.

I was discussing an episode of "Storage Wars" with some guys at work who had also watched it and how a guy found a flamethrower in a storage unit and had it checked out to see if it worked (which it did) and he kept it. I am sure I saw 2 episodes? of "Sons of Guns" where flamethrowers were either built or repaired. I think I remember in one episode they mentioned the flamethrower being regulated maybe as an NFA weapon? I am really not sure, but I am almost positive he was told that once the flamethrower was built or repaired he could not take it home with him.

Can anyone just own a flamethrower? or are they regulated much like NFA weapons? Also, is there different classifications for different types? I am pretty sure firefighters use them for controlled burns. Would these be considered the same as a military type flamethrower such as the one in Sons of Guns?

There was a PA guy on FALFiles who got into these things and made at least one using old fire extinguisher bodies. Apparently there are plans on the web and people do legally build these things at home.

    (1) A person who violates this section is guilty
of a felony and on conviction is subject to imprisonment
not exceeding 25 years or a fine not exceeding
    $250,000 or both.

Wow, you'd be better off with a machine gun!

    Subtitle 5. Destructive Devices
    4-501 Definitions
"Destructive device" includes a bomb, grenade,
    mine, shell, missile, flamethrower, poison
gas, Molotov cocktail, pipe bomb, and petroleum-
    soaked ammonium nitrate.

I wonder if possessing the individual components would be "constructive intent", as with modifications needed to convert a rifle to full auto? I would think not, given the broad scope of the description, but who knows.

Its "constructive possession" not "constructive intent;" last time you guys got talking about "constructive intent" you had me using that phrase and I should know better. Don't confuse me anymore please.

With that thought, any homeowner with gasoline, glass containers, and rags would be in possession of Molotov Cocktails...

Ahh, but you have to have the "intent" as demonstrated from the facts and circumstances surrounding your case showing that you intended to use those component as molotov cocktails. For instance, a photograph of your garage show an assembly line for said devices would be sufficient.

Flamethrowers got to be banned, and must have been for a long time. For one, they are awesome, entertaining, and fun, as arms they are protected by 2A, and would undoubtedy be infringed by now, they spray from the hip, have a barrel shroud, pistol grips, and high capacity tanks. There aren't bloody BBQs on the street as people roast each other over parking spots like the Wild west, haven't heard of anyone torching a scholl or shopping mall, and when is the last time someone was mugged or a 7-11 was robbed at flamethrower-point. Yes, good job nannystate, you must have passed a law to protect us from the fiery menace long ago, probably around the time of the great black power cannon ban, we can live in peace without the fear of drive-by broadsides thanks to that ban.:D

As others have said federally, flamethrowers(and black power cannons) are as regulated as a pair of boots, state laws vary.

    OK-where do you buy Napalm?

MSP must have an ammo log for that.

Just get some jell-o pow...., on second thought I shouldn't complete that sentence, I'd need to clean up my house before the fed's come raid it. :lol2:

Not fed regulated, hmm, may have to find a pyro friendly state to move too. :D

Hmmm might know a guy who used something just like this at work for some controlled burns of brush and grass, DO NOT USE GASOLINE diesel or K1 was used.

You are correct about not using gasoline, that would make for a bad day!!!

I was pretty lucky in that i was the first person to shoot the flame thrower that weekend so the owner let me help him mix up the napalm. Now that does use gasoline that is mixed with some type of congealing agent. The naplam is what gives you the nice steady stream of fire that you can see in my pic. The diesel was more of a fire ball than a stream.

It was $120 well spent
